Fodera bass dilemma..

Hi fellow talkbass bros and ladies..i am currently in a fix. I want, no i need a Fodera bass. I am inclined to the emperor series, but suddenly, seeing Matt Garrison singlecut has made me do a double take. So right now, i am confused. But in a good way. Lol. Both these models are exceptionally well made. I just don't know which will be versatile enough for daily gigs. Some advice please from Fodera owners. Merci!:hyper::bassist::D:hiding:

Don't take a chance on making the wrong decision, buy both!!!

Why do you "need" one and if you really do and you can afford it-by the tone of your post , I guess you can, what's the big deal?

I'd guess that you can order either the Emperor or the Matt Garrison with pretty much whatever woods, pickups, electronics, etc. you want, so really the primary difference is the shape.

So, the big question is, why would either one be inherently any more "versatile" for "daily gigs" than the other?

I'd recommend contacting Jason, telling him what kind of music you play and what your ideal bass feels like, and let him recommend something. If you're inclined to an Emperor, get in line for an E5S so you can get your hands dirty, and then stalk a used Emperor Deluxe in the TB Classifieds.

Agreed. And talk to Jason (and LISTEN to him). Tell him how you expect to use it. He will help you get what you want, if you listen.

Also, IMHO, focus on sonic and ergonomic issues, not cosmetic. The bass will look great no matter what.

These instruments are incredibly versatile. I have not found a situation that my Fodera (mymymy my Fodera!) can't handle. R&B, funk, jazz, fusion, country - the only thing I think I haven't played with it is Metal...

Are you asking about the standard models or custom? If you're considering a custom bass then you need to understand what all of the variables are (models, woods, pickup configurations, electronics, frets (I can't stand the large frets, personally), and everything else) before you choose. You should try to play some, if there are players near you or a store that might happen to have one in stock. The suggestion to try a standard first, (or a used bass), is a good one. Visit the guys in Brooklyn if you can swing it.

I don't think anything that costs more than my car would have any place in a smoky bar or anywhere else I might happen to be playing that isn't a smoke-free studio. This is coming from a guy who views all his basses as working tools.....

Oh and I would suggest getting some handcuffs and chaining the case to your wrist... :smug:

I gig mine everywhere. It is insured if something happens to it. No hesitation to take it on a gig. If it is safe for me, it'll be safe for the bass.

Out here, there are no smoky bars. It's against the law to smoke in California (also at Groom Lake). My Emperor goes to every gig of my acoustic trio. Why own one if you're not going to play it? I view my basses as functional objets d'art.

Woahh...i didnt realise my thread would garner so much response. Lol. I have tried an emperor before. But it was a deluxe one. It was and still is the most perfect bass ever IMHO. I am weighing in once again the Matt Garrison Model. Perhaps, i should just get both the Emperor standard and MG standard. Plus by ordering both together, i have some time to raise some cash..lol.
