Please forget for a minute that I am now a partner at Fodera (if that is even possible), but if you check through all of my posts (not an easy task) including those from long before I even had an inkling that I might one day be a partner, I have said on multiple occasions that the best stuff that has ever come out of the Fodera Shop is happening right now (at least from the many Foderas that I have played and owned). I regularly play Foderas from 1984 to the present day and I think the best stuff they (now "we") have done is recent.

The woods are older an more seasoned, the guys are more experienced, the electronics are better (thanks Mike and David!), the PUPS have been refined, the finish process is a perfect blend of aesthetics and functionality and everyone in the shop is in a great mental space and TOTALLY into what they are doing.

that's all good . . . but the only way you're gonna get my 85s away from me is to pry them from my cold, dead fingers.

Yes, we have been making our own PUPS for well over 6 months now. We like them a lot, especially the dual coil 5-string PUPS that we are winding in either 60's style or 70's style. Since Duncan's were based on recreating vintage Fender-style single coil pups, as were ours, there is a lot of similarity sound-wise.

jonno1707 here's your Imperial mockups. I did one with the top in your picture and one with a clearer template version of that top I have.

From the looks of it, your bass already has 70's (i.e. "wide") PUP spacing) and, as such we could not add dual coil PUPs...there would be no way to properly position the bridge PUP AND cover the existing holes properly...

It you were concerned about hum when soloing one PUP, we have lateral humcancelling PUPs that sound pretty darn close to Single Coils...no, they are NOT exactly as bright and open as singles, but close enough IMHO that they more than make up for it with the elimination of 60 cycle noise....

What a nice bass !!

I would never think about adding routes to this beauty !

As Jason posted before - if you try to install Dual Coils on a position where they will fill the Jazz Bass routings then both coils will have another position than the existing one - with a non-defined impact on the tone. There are a lot of high end basses out there which have been abused this way - I also owned one... forget it.

Usually dual coil tap switches are activating the outer coils. If you place the outer coils exactly on the current single coil positions then you won't fill the routings.

So - no chance unless you take humcancelling / stacked pickups...

couldnt you just put the duals in larger than average wood covers?
