Fodera Club Part III

Have you guys checked out this bass yet!!??!!
I'm slightly considering making my Fodera look like this now..the black burst with buckeye in the middle. I wouldn't do the gloss though..just a poly finish

and Jason...is this still possible?

Would you choose the walnut top or the burst??

I have my first custom bass on order. I have been saving for a while to get a Fodera. The specs are:

Emperor II 6 string
mahogany body/ crotch walnut top
24 fret,3 pc maple neck
Madagascar rosewood fingerboard
SD Duncan dual coils in top matching wooden covers (exposed poles)
gold hardware

I am debating about paying the up charge to make the top a one piece.

I don't personally like the idea of covering up all of that beautiful wood with the black burst. But that is just my preference, I like to see the natural beauty.

That's not a good look for a Fodera.

if you go buckeye probably needs to be neck thru showing. Walnut (my first monarch that the boys photographed last year actually # 23 ish) is walnut with ash body, ebony fretboard is still killer bass.

me? i'd do everything the same, one fretted, one fretless. but i like matched pairs.

That person would theoretically get two fretteds, as he has only ever liked fretless Fodera, and he/she plays fretless so infrequently that the one he has is more than sufficient. He/she may currently have two identical-except-for-woods 5s on order, but might change one body and one to a 6 string...but can't decide.

Normally this person thinks that these decisions can really only be made by the person who ultimately owns the instruments, but is debating it so furiously that he seeks outside opinions.

I am the one with 2 foderas on order with 2 months interval:

One is firmed (first order) = fitted 4 string, 34"
One is not firmed (2nd order) = fitted 5 string or fretless

Sure =
2 different models,
2 different woods (top, body, fingerboard)

Not sure =
Type on 2nd: fretted 5 vs fretless 4 or 5.
Scale on 2nd: 33" vs 34",
Maple vs ash neck on 2nd,
24 frets/lines vs 26 frets/lines

Nevertheless, they must in killer.....

This is the stiuation I am facing....
I like fretless but played not so frequently.
So I am choosing between 2 different types of fretted or fretted&fretless.
Of course, 3 foderas may solve this case .....

I was in this boat.

I actually had two different Monarchs - different specs, different wood, but they felt similar enough that I got rid of one. I didn't need two, and it was pretty much overkill.

Now I have an Emperor and a Monarch. Different woods, different feel, different tone, different basses. Couldn't be happier with my decision.
