Here's a close up of the neck joint on mine. The access does end slightly before 24th fret. With that said though, I have no problem at all getting to it.

That difference in where the lower cutaway begins has nothing to do with Elite vs. Deluxe. Within the same scale length, either model will begin its cutaway at the same point. That said...since every one of these is a custom instrument, a player can always ask for a slightly deeper cutaway to allow them better access to the upper register of the instrument...

Nope. There are a couple of Imperial-shaped dovetail guitars out there, but no basses. Remember...the primary driver for Fodera's original Single Cut design was functional -- originally intended to provide added stability to the neck of a 36" scale neck. Without significantly altering Vinny's initial design, there is not nearly as much of a structural benefit to a bolt-on or dovetail single cut...the attachment points between the neck and the body cannot be as continuous or as strong.

Vinny and Joey did make templates for them and we certainly could build them, but have not to date...

Would the neck of a set neck bass not be glued to the upper cut just as it is in a neckthrough hence be stabilized in the same manner, and could on a bolt on , the neck not have screws to fasten it to the upper bout as is done in some cases and therefore be stabilized?

Do you happen to have a picture of one such guitar you mention?
I may well be missing something, so please excuse all the questions on this!

Yes, it would but rather than running the entire length of the body wings, the glue joint would cover a much smaller area. Yes, screws could be used to create kind of a hybrid dovetail / bolt-together, but from an elegance of design standpoint that does seem less than optimal.

I actually do not have a picture of an Imperial Guitar...we just had one in the shop last week, but I don't remember anyone taking a picture of it...

I did not actually mean to use screws on a set neck but on a bolt on bass(in case it came across as though I did).

check it out. the fodera guys are selling joey l's 1990s 5-string fodera bass on ebay.

first: don't do it! (i know it's cause he's not using it, but still.)

second: wish i had seriously deep pockets 'cause i would love to just have it.

third: the pic of joey holding the bass in progress is freaking priceless.

good luck on the sale, dudes . . .
