Fodera Club Part IX

oh sure...it's always fun until someone loses an eye... :)

Double-header last night. 7-9:45pm with my quintet splitting between the YYS and the RA, then a hurried drive to the pier for a 10:30pm downbeat with Steely Jam. I normally use my P bass but decided to deviate from the accepted norm. The Fodera acquitted itself well according to friends in the crowd. Got the mad props from the guy coming off stage with his F bass. So the bass was a hit - unfortunately I made a tactical mistake and didn't eat enough food before the first gig. As it turns out playing Steely Dan tunes with low blood sugar is an adventure. Oh well...that's why I have another gig tonight. And Sunday.

Gig #100 of 2011, all YYS, all set.

And earlier in the evening.

i wonder is there any maintenance that needs to be done on the fodera necks to keep them really nice smooth and slick?
I almost shat my pants when i played this kids fodera monarch.. it was freaking unbelievable

like over time do they special care to keep em nice?

Man i cant wait to get my YYS.. .really nice pics nostatic!

I was wondering if you could do a full review of the bass if you havent already?

there is a spot on the Fodera website which gives good instruction on how to take care of your new baby. It should answer all your questions.

I think the way to maintain it is to play the snot out of it. :D I know that my RAs have gotten better as they've worn in. The Fodera neck finish is special indeed though. So far I'm just wiping it down and am avoiding any "polishes" that have any chemicals. I figure a wipe with a slightly damp soft cloth, then wiped with a dry soft cloth does the trick.

I posted some other impressions in the YYS support thread. I usually try to get a bunch of gigs under my hands (and maybe a string change) on a new bass before I go into gory detail on things. Plus the honeymoon is strong on most basses. So far I've done 4 shows with it, have gigs tonight and tomorrow so I'm homing in on my impressions of the bass.

Maybe someone (Thumpin') knows how many Monarch 4 Standards have been born?? BO with the black headstock & 2 band Pope.

Are they discontinued as a 'stock' or spec model?

thanks

I agree on the necks. I have a Monarch that a Very Famous Person (VFP) sold me. The neck is perfect. I have good stuff, trust me, but the Monarch takes the prize. Just saying :bassist::hyper:

Yup, Koa top, Ebony FB with Abalone block inlays...

As for how many Monarch Standards are out there? Not really sure but not many...the guys (Joey and Vinny) introduced the product but then never had the time to build enough to support demand so it kind of just died on the vine.

J

Whoa, what's the specs on this one? Is that a Koa top?

Hey guys,

I have finally placed an order for my 1st Fodera (Emperor 5) and now in the process of choosing a top.. It is proving to be really difficult!

Will appreciate any comments/feedback!

Thndrstk6 - Are you still around? Could you help to do a mock up..?

Thanks all!
