If we can just convince the music education establishment that the knowledge they refer to in terms of playing music is non-verbal but still linguistic we'd have something. For now, it's "left brain theoretical book knowledge" vs. "some freaky rightbrain magic that makes you able to play stuff" and it's confusing young musicians.

It is an unbelievable piece of Fodera history...I am incredibly tempted by this one personally, but I just have toooooo many basses. In person the bass is literally as it was the day that Vinny finished it...stunning.

Actually, if you look at all of the basses I have been selling, I just really realized that I am simply not an instrument collector...I love to play my basses, not collect them and so the basses that I have bought that are not in heavy playing rotation are being sold...because of that, there really is no need to buy more collectibles. LOL.
That said, this one is about as tempting as I have seen!!

As a neck material will provide more open resonance and sound slightly warmer. It is not as compact, tight, and/or bright sounding as Maple.
From a utility standpoint (weight and stability), for all practical purposes -- as long as the right Ash is used -- there is no significant difference.

It's interesting that you find the ash neck warmer- Mike Tobias says it's brighter. I can't tell much of a difference beyond the calmer attack, honestly.
I can't wait to hear how my wenge necked bass comes out. I still haven't heard a better Fodera than the wenge-necked/bubinga-bodied Monarch I played years back. I wish I'd bought it (luckily, it sounded nothing like a Warwick like one would expect!).
