Generally we set them up similarly...allowing the the unique tonal signature of each bass to come through. That siad, based on specific conversations with customers and what they are looking to achieve we do, of course, make adjustments...

At first I've noticed that the mids on my bass are higher than older Fodera's that I've owned, and the lows are more tight, I like it a lot!

Some of us will definitely be there! We are hoping to get the whole shop to come, but that really depends on how we are doing with the Production Schedule...if we get ahead, we will all come!
Mike and I actually flipped around the dual coil bridge pickup on my Mahogany/Kingwood Emperor so that the single coil mode would give it more of a 60s position. It warmed up the tone significantly IMO, and seems to work better for this bass. I flipped it back later to see if I was imagining it, and then put it right back flipped, which is how I still have it.
Charles, this is exactly my experience when A/B-ing inner and outer coils. I prefer the inner single coil mode over the outer mode and wired the pickups in some of my Foderas accordingly - but only if the dual coil neck pickup is 70s positioned. Didn't check the option with 60s positioned neck pickups.
I would really appreciate to get an additional jumper option on the preamp to select between inner and outer single coil operation. Should be easy to implement. There are a lot of jumper options which I find much less interesting...

There's no jumper setting for that for a reason...you don't need one.
Take a look here at this document I put together which Jason put on the site.

Truth is, all you need to do is open the bass up and reverse the red and black (white on Aeros) wires as they enter the screw terminal. That will do it. You must reverse them on BOTH pickups, though.
You can wire a switch to perform that function as well.
The current coil tap switch can be wired for:
Parallel/split inner
Parallel/split outer
Series/split inner
Series/split outer
Series settings require a jumper change
Depending on how you orient the pups you could also have single coil mode be:
neck pup outer and the bridge pup inner (a la Charles' bass I believe)
or
neck pup inner and bridge pup outer
To change the position of only one pup, you must physically turn the pup around. Otherwise, if you change only the wiring on one pup you no longer have a matched pair of coils in single coil mode So if you have a quarter pound magnet on the C string you're kind of screwed there. You can still reverse it, but you'd have to take apart the pup and reverse the locations of the coils. I've done it but it's MAJORLY delicate surgery and I do not advise trying it. When it comes to dual coil bass pups, I've tried just about everything you can imagine.

in a "standard" (Fender Jazz) '60 vs '70 placement, the difference is only in the bridge pup. The neck doesn't move.

To the neck PU thing, I meant to mention that...
Neck PU is always 6 1/8" (34" scale).
60's bridge pup is 3 5/8" away from the neck (I've also seen 3 3/4")
70's bridge pup is 4" from neck.
I've never seen a neck pu in another position than that.
FYI, a neck pup needs to be moved farther for a harmonic change since the harmonics get exponentially farther apart as you move away from the ends of the string.
An 1/8" makes a noticable difference in a bridge pu. It's very hard to discern in a neck pup, IMO.

I'd like to know more about front pup position.
I'm considering putting my front pup in the P position. if I move it to the P position, and when using only front pup, it would give me closer P tone. However, when I turn on both pups , the tone would be changed due to the fact that P is closer to the bridge than than front pup usually does.
When I use both pups at the same time, I usually have it be single coil mode. So, If I have single coil mode be neck pup inner and bridge pup outer, is it closer to the traditional J tone? I cannot sure, since I don't know exact position of them..
Also,can I use Mike Pope's movable pup system? As for the bridge pup, I LOVE 60's position a lot, no doubt.! if I use movable system, my front pup could be movable between original P position and traditional J position.

At Fodera's price levels, it is, IMHO, rather silly, to call a thousand bucks 999,00.
At discount retail level (Walmart et al), the 9,99 strategy is obviously working, but if I consider to INVEST in an instrument for USD 8.000 (4-string), 8.750 (5-string) and 9.500 (6 string), I feel I am not being taken seriously when you call it USD 7.999, 8.749 and 9.499 USD respectively....
Sorry to rant and I really admire Foderas...
Agreed. It is mean for someone to remember a price as $9 instead of $10 when it's really $10. Is anyone really saying "Oh, it's $8700, I'd do that- but not at a $100 more!".
It's a bit (lot) silly, imo.
Good website change, though; once it's ironed out and filled out it will be a nice website. I think they should put more example pictures of each model, though, like the previous website had. Those additions come with time, though.
Also, Jason, double check all of the dealer links- some of the links go to the wrong dealer! But those things are always going to happen with a new launch (and no doubt someone has notified you of all such things).

while we are on this discussion, i have noticed that most foderas with j pickups have them in the 70s position....even the rosewood/alder nyc's. every one in a while you will see a 60's setup but it seems rare. is this vinnie and joey's personal preference, as i believe joey's personal emperor had a 70's j setup?
Great new website! I just had a couple of questions. First, the newborn section features three Emperor 5 string basses with extended B headstock. The Masur Birch Emperor appears to have a significantly wider headstock and body. Is this actually the case, and if so is this something a customer can request?
Second, I registered my Foderas on the new site and wondered if this information might be used in the future to compile a comprehensive database of sold instruments including photos. I would be happy to supply photos of my instruments if that is the case. Could be really cool. Anyway, my apologies in advance if either/both of these questions have been answered elsewhere.
