Mike...you turn me on when you talk Tech!!!

How is the recording coming? We are all thinking about you!!

J

Writing, writing, writing. Practicing, practicing, practicing. Just did a little primer record with a killing vibes player and the drummer who is playing on the record. Wanted to flesh out some of the technical stuff way ahead of time. So far, everything is shaping up really great. Gonna send all the charts out to the guys by next week, then it's time to just practice like a school boy.

I understand that the customer is always right, but why not just use a DI? Is there a special point to having it right on the pre?

It's really exactly the same at having a DI. There is no technical benefit to having it in the bass. But, at the same time, you always have it with you, and you always know what sound you're going to get. And it's a convenience matter as well. No DI box to carry around, no extra cable to worry about (if you're using it live).

As I understand it, Janek had a bass prior to his Foderas (Wal maybe?...got it at the Wal mart?) that had that feature and he liked it so we did it for him.

When having both the 1/4 plugged (out to your rig) and the XLR (out to the board), is there any additional drain on the battery?

Seeing people order 5 string basses tuned E-C makes me wonder about the pickups. Specifically from what I can tell the SD Fodera custom pickups for 6 string bass have a single pole pieces for the "C" string and the 5 string SD have to double pole pieces even when factory E-C is wanted. Is there a need for the single pole piece design for the "C" string? If so why isn't it used on 5 string basses who's owner specify E-C factory tuning/set up?

BTW, my sig is the Fodera countdown clock..lol

I love my Emperors :)

The current consumption goes from about 1.1mA to about 1.4mA all the time whether you use the XLR or not. So you get roughly 20% less life from the batteries. I think the quiescent current is still the majority of the power consumption, although I imagine if you're driving a 600ohm mic input you'll spend a little there too.

Janek's bass requires a "dummy" plug to be plugged into the 1/4" output to turn on the preamp as well.

Thank you for explaining that for me Mike.
