Fodera Club Part VII

I know it's a little off topic since this is the Fodera Club and Melvin plays a Ken Smith but this video is so tasty I thought it was worth sharing.

YouTube - ‪Lee Ritenour - Rio Funk live NorthSea Jazzfestival 2009‬‏
Interesting video. His entire solo, he hardly ventured beyond the 5th fret. Rather than fill his space with notes, he filled it with groove and it so worked. Thanks for posting it.

Although, honestly, even though I loved his tone, I would have loved to have loaned him my Fodera Emperor 5 for the song... heavy ash body, sturdy pbass like maple neck and finger board, tone meater than a Sizzler cooler and thicker than Charlie Sheen... THAT! :hyper:

If you search for other vids of Rio Funk, you'll find various bass players that have played with Lee. Melvin is by far the most funky tho.

Yes, hand him a really nice Fodera and I'm sure he would have raised the bar even higher.

Why scared?? It's an awesome thing! What are you considering?

Scared only because it's a big financial decision, so I hope I like it!

Just wrote a blog (part 1 of 2) of Bela Fleck & the Flecktones on my music blog. Part 1 is mostly an intro to the band, check it out here!

One day I'll probably write a blog on Fodera (and buy write a post, I probably mean just show a bunch of pretty pictures) :)

Gonna go visit our friends at Fodera next week - plan on taking some video too! Can't wait to meet up with those guys again!

On another note - when's the last time any of you have played a NEW Empire-series Bass? I've had a couple come in and I must say I'm completely blown away at the quality and workmanship... Anyone else have RECENT experience with a new one?

yup, here's one!
just receive it yesterday, seriously, top level of craftsmanship, the body design and neck was the nicest jazz neck i ever played (i suppose i've covered ac, sad, nordy) for someone with small hands like me, fatigue free, ease playing!. and the 21st fret access, was much better than what you get from the standard bolt on vintage styled instrument.
the satin finish felt awesome, wood looks and felt awesome. most imptly, it sounded awesome! the mike pope 3 band pre was oozing tone out badly:bassist: (and yes, fodera humcancelling pickups! No hum!)

thou i might never be able to afford a custom shop fodera, damn, this is good enough for me, (check out the quilt spalted maple top!). 70s jazz tone on my fingertips, with the big tonal range you can get with the pre. and that butterfly and wood(yes, same lumber used from the custom shop), awesome deal you can get for a jazz bass.

and yes! not forgetting the awesome strings.. its a opinion thing, but i'm sticking to them, felt right, sound right.. and the price is right!

lastly not forgetting Jason Desalvo's awesome customer service. *2 thumbs up*

If you don't like it you're crazy. I used to own it and kind of regret selling it, especially since I sold it to get a Stambaugh that wasn't even close to what I wanted in the end. One of the two best Fodera's I've owned along with my Beez Elite, and I've owned 7 or so Fodera's?

Maybe when and if you decide to sell it you can PM me first. :-P I would have bought it back if I were swimming in cash, I saw it on the Low End when it went up.

You're getting one of the best sounding Fodera's I've ever played.
