I mean-looking at "who was inspired by/copied from whom" rather that "who was inspired by/copied from fodera".
that opens it up a bit and might be more informative.
:)

...but maybe that's what you meant in the first place?

I'm saying Fodera here because this is the Fodera club and I was the one who opened the other thread...

What I'm trying to say is "sorry, I didn't realize I was opening a can of worms".

That copied/inspired discussion is rather interesting and IMO it should be brought elsewhere, not here...

Welcome aboard foundation! You have yourself a really nice Buckeye top there. At some point, like Chestnut, instrument quality Buckeye will no longer be available. :(

I'd say buckeye has never been instrument quality in the first place, certainly not considered a tone wood. The stuff crumbles easily and seems to have the consistency of styrofome. Though it probably doesn't have a negative impact on the tone.

The last time I selected a few Buckeye tops, Jason explained the really good stuff is becoming more and more scarce.

When I say instrument grade, I mean tops that are free from enough natural defects to make it worthwhile using(and nicely figured).

It is said that Buckeye has little if any impact on tone when selected as a top. One might say it is 'neutral' in terms of tone. On the other hand, tops such as Ebony, Koa or Olive do affect the tone of a bass.

With that said though, I do have a few in my collection... ;-)

I'm wondering what if any impact fret (wire) size has on slap tone/playability on Foderas. I'm mostly a finger style player but invariably will add some slap for spice if it fits the song.

I might presume larger frets are slightly easier to get the popping finger under the string but on the other hand prefer the feel of smaller frets on the fretting hand...

If the bass has been properly set-up, neither size should be better or worse for slapping. That said, there is less meat on the small frets and so the last fret on the fingerboard will need to be replaced sooner due to the wear than if someone that slaps a lot chose large frets...
