It's gotta be, right? I mean his current Viceroy just came out early this year (???) so how could anyone have ordered another and have it be completed so soon?
It's funny this came up cause this morning I was just thinking about Mike's bass and that if I had a "signature" instrument that I'm known for and use probably exclusively I'd want 2 in case something happened to 1 of them... Must be nice.

To be clear I wasn't offering my own opinion what so ever. I don't have a dog in this fight. I dig what I play because it works for me. I simply wanted to know where J draws the line. I remember an article in bass player mag (someone correct me if I'm wrong) where AJ was blasting people who were making singlecuts. I feel that may be relevant to the conversation. While I don't really respect those who blatantly rip off others designs, I can choose to not buy them.
AJ is way harder nosed that I would ever be.
By that same line of thinking Fender could blast anyone making electric bass guitars. Yeah? It seems like we kind of agree, I just get kind of adamant about it.
The differences are basically the look, and the fact that the Emp II is always neck through, whereas the Emp can be bolt on, dovetail, or neck through build styles. If you want neck through, get the shape you like best. If you want bolt on or dovetail joints, go for the Emperor.
If you look at the headstock is not the same as Mike, in his Viceroy the lowB and straight like a shot

Hey all...
I opened the other thread with basses that one could say got inspired by some of Fodera's designs and now I feel a little guilty that the Fodera club got into this copy/no copy whatever discussion.
I'm a big Fodera fan (own 4 of them) and opened the other thread because I'm proud of what my friends achieved in terms of quality in bass guitar construction and bass photography, not to incite any bad feelings.
If you guys don't mind me asking, please take this discussion over there or open a thread dedicated to it and leave the club to discuss Fodera basses.
Once again, I showed those photos mainly because of the quality of the macro shots, not to put design ownership into discussion. If we start doing that, we're gonna see that mostly everyone borrowed some ideas from everyone...
It's obvious that those builders inspired by Fodera could simply change a curve or two and say "it's my original design" and no one would say a thing. That's actually fairly easy to do... As Jason said, doing something very similar is actually a homage to the original concept (if there's one). I could also go over many concepts that Fodera borrowed from other builders but that would just be a waste of time, since it doesn't take the merits from their basses.

Just a suggestion; wouldn't it be more interesting and possibly more fruitful if you were to go for something on "inspired by-copied from" in general, rather than inspired inspired by-copied from fodera"?
