i knew michael from the rock clubs in l.a. he made it semi-big, we didn't.

we did it live, cause that was his biggest hit. actually saw many of those songs in l.a. club scene years before his first alb.

funny thing is, i just posted it for the visual and hadn't listened to it. it does sound pretty good. those tonight show sound guys must be pretty good ;-)

i was using 2–3 blue tube preamps and switching between them for different sounds. i was having to try to cop some danelectro 6-string bass sound, so one of the units was all about the treble (you can hear it in the breakdown section). wish the preamps themselves had just a tad more low on them.

I had the privilege of seeing The Tedeschi Trucks Band last night at the legendary Chicago Theatre and it was an incredible show! The whole band was amazing, of course.

Oteil was really killing it! He's a consummate showman. He could dance, shuffle and laugh with his bandmates all while keeping an intense groove. He really was a show in himself. He played his Fender P and his Fodera 6. Both sounded incredible, as you can well expect. I've been a fan of Oteil's for many years and I'm very glad I was able to see him perform. Dude is intense in every way.

Check out their tour schedule and if you see a date nearby, do yourself a favor and go see the band. Derek is powerful and musical, Susan is soulful and genuine, and Oteil is groovin' and just plain fun to watch. You can tell he really drives the band from an energy standpoint. Not to mention the rest of the band who are equally talented.

I've now see Warren Haynes multiple times and can't wait to see Derek and Susan again soon! I'm a huge fan of all three of them.

All in all, an incredible night of music that I won't forget.

That's for sure. It was a real treat to see them in a venue with such great acoustics and sound. Derek's guitar was screaming all night...in the best way possible.

My apologies for the late replay. I was actually posting from the office that morning. I went in to grab a couple of things before I left and students kept coming in. So, that is why I ran. I needed to or I would have been stuck here all day.

No sound files yet. We are still getting familiar with one another. Although my annual retreat to the cabin helped a lot with that.

As for the pickup position. I wanted it placed in the P position. I have been a P player my entire life and have never grasped on to dual pickup instruments. So, when I ordered the instrument. The 2 things I knew I wanted were chambered body (to reduce weight) and pickup in the p position.

The top was chosen after that. I met with the owner of the store where I placed the order on several occasions discussing tops. He sent hundreds of photos of various species. I narrowed them down to 4 different pieces, 2 walnut and 2 pieces of olive. And, I made another trip to NYC to view them. That is when this piece was picked.

Hi Thom, welcome back, I hope you had a decent break. I was fortunate to view my top (the sister piece to yours) with Jason at the Fodera shop. It was an oversight on my part not to have realised that the MG configuration i.e 26 frets, 2pups & ramp would take away some of the best detail of the top. I have been given options for consideration;
1. Tom Kennedy pickup config
2. Lincoln Goines single pup config

One that appeals to me is a custom wound AJ Presentation pup in AJP position (relative to 33" inch scale). Only the Good Lord & Mr Jackson would have any clue as to the sonic properties that this config might produce. I haven't got $$$ to throw at such an experiment. So I've decided to stick with my original choice and have my chosen top for the back and select a new top. You mentioned that your dealer sent you many examples of wood species, can you relate what he said in regards to woods that work well with walnut and those to avoid?
I'd love to hear a sample of your bass...

It really is. The family relationship definitely shines through as Kofi and Oteil are right by each other on-stage and smile and communicate all night. You can tell they're having a ton of fun!

You have to go when you get the chance! It really is a great show. They cover 'Anyday' from Derek & The Dominoes and they absolutely kill that song. Susan is a great singer. Her voice just cuts right through that band and floors you.

That's how I got turned onto Susan (never had heard of her before, and didn't realize she was married to Derek). Hey Andy! Your wish is my command. No Fodera in the clip, but Oteil is a Fodera artist, so I guess it is OK. It is definitely worth listening to the whole thing. The interplay between Derek and Herbie is just scary good!
