Well, I gave it some serious thought, but decided to see sense and stick with my original plan. My first bass was an old precision and I have a Zon Sonus 5, so I do enjoy single pickup designs. But it would be a travesty to route out a beautiful top so I'll have it as a stunning back.

That's how I got turned onto Susan (never had heard of her before, and didn't realize she was married to Derek). There is a smokin' Youtube video of that session, with Otiel on bass and Vinnie on drums.

Hey Ken!

Yeah, the new disc is great. A lot of great cuts on there. Very much looking forward to more music from them in the future.

That video is indeed insane! I watch it from time-to-time. What a burnin' session. You have some heavy-hitters on there!

One thing that Derek and Susan talk about in the behind-the-scenes videos is the fact that the band is like one big family. During the sessions, the band would stay down there and they would have dinner together and visit. You can definitely tell they're all on the same page and comfortable with each other to a great degree. They looked like one big family on stage having fun.

We're all good here for the most part. I think the eastern shore of MD got it pretty good. I wonder about PRS. I'm inland....west of Baltimore a good bit. So it was minimal for us. Still pretty interesting, but all's well that ends well I guess.

It was pretty crazy here on Long Island yesterday. More than 1/3 of the people here lost, and still don't have, power.

I was lucky. I lost cable and phone but still have power. We had just minor damage at my place.

On a postive note, I spent the day inside playing bass! :bassist:

We were supposed to get hit here in Connecticut across from the Long Island sound on Sunday night... but there was nothing. Rained sideways on Saturday night and Sunday morning, but by noon it was bright and clear. I think here it was just an excuse for everyone to get a day off!

Vermont got blasted, though.

yeah, you just moved there! i have friends in vermont. they seemed to survive, but they have friends who got nailed.

emjazz is up that way (new hampshire, i think).

Steuart, thanks for checking in with me. Still in NH....back to Boston on thursday. Summer gig up here is over. As I said elsewhere, we were supposed to get hit on the coast in northern New England but it moved inland. As was said parts of Vermont got hit really hard. We were lucky here. I had a gig canceled but gained a day of rest (much needed). I hope everyone else is ok where they are. Sounds like most of us (East Coast) were spared. I will say that I wish the media wouldn't turn it into an add for a sunday truck show every time a storm is coming around. I can't stand the sensationalism, even when it is a potentially serious storm.

It didn't help that came after the non-event earthquake. I was in NYC when the earthquake hit and didn't even feel it. Neither did anyone else in the building with us, and nobody seemed to notice on the streets. We didn't even notice until we left Manhattan an hour later and it was all over the news on the radio.

I think east coasters are so unfamiliar with earthquakes that there was some left over pandemonium when it became clear Irene would hit land.

my wife and i were in southwest virginia for the quake. i guess we were driving around, cause we didn't feel it. my mother-in-law asks if we felt the quake . . . nope. when i heard it was 5.8, i was, whatev, small potatoes (being a cali guy), but i guess folks were really jolted.

Gang --

We could spray over the signature, but the whole point was to make it 100% real. Vic actually signed them..no games, no graphics, no cover-ups. I would strongly advise anyone playing #1-10 to get an extra back plate and keep the other in a safe place. In retrospect, we probably should have done that out of the box. Anyone that has #1-10, feel free to email me at the shop and if you'll cover shipping costs, we'll send the extra backplate to you for free...

All of us and the shop are fine. We did lose roughly 2 days of building though...we had to move a lot of the machines away from the windows and tarp them, secure all of the instruments in process and move them to the interior of our space...just time consuming.

I was lucky in one way...I was on an airplane while all of this as going on on Friday, so I didn't end up really having to do a lot of the work.

Then today everything that was done on Friday needed to be reversed, but by the end of the day things were back to normal and the shop was humming!

Nope. Moved back in 2005 to a little town west of Baltimore. I wasn't putting my kids in the Long Island schools, we couldn't afford private schools, and I couldn't afford to live anywhere close to the city. My wife and I both grew up in a small town and liked the idea of returning to that instead of continuing that lifestyle in NY where every interaction is based on someone challenging you in some way. It's exhausting for midwesterners like us. The idea of spending $20k a year just for property taxes in Jersey or Westchester to still have horrible roads and mediocre schools wasn't sitting well either. Maryland is a nice, reasonable, fairly politically centrist place to live, and I can make it home from the Blue Note in around 3.5 hours (did it once in 2.5 ;)). The difference in my quality of life here compared to NY is worth every mile of the drive. On the other hand, my 740i has 220k miles on it :eek:
