I've also got a question for Jason or any of you FoderaHeads. I was just wondering what accounts for the higher price (compared to the other models) of the AJ Presentaion Model? I mean what makes it so much more different from say an Imperial? Just curious!

They also have titanium bridges and truss rods. The woods are the best of their premium collection.

I'm not sure if it's still the case but for a while I believe AJ was playing them and tweaking the setup before a customer took delivery.

They really are otherworldly in a number of both tangible and intangible ways. If you have the chance to play one, it's a very rewarding experience.

I love the Yin Yang that you posted! It has 2 of the major features of my forthcoming Fodera...5 strings, and those big dual coil Duncan pickups! I LOVE my 4 string P/J Yin Yang Deluxe, but I am sure that the one you posted a picture of is incredible! Visually, I really like the pickup covers that allow the YY theme to match the top perfectly!

The pickups are a point of contention for my fiancee (who is an artist for a living). She really prefers the dual coil with the covers that match the flow of the yin/yang. I find that the P pup is pretty close but if she insists I suppose I can order another one :D

That said I'm not big on the holly - I prefer a darker wood with more grain showing but that is a totally personal bias. I get why some really like the the lighter wood though as it makes for a cleaner/purer yin/yang counterpoint.

There are a couple of things going on with the AJ Presentation that make us price it where we do....

1. Woods. The Quilted Mahogany top and 6-string 28-fret sized Brazilian FB account for over $4,500 of the List Price.

2. The top is entirely hand-carved by Vinny. This process takes him several days to do...and yes, the Presentation is also chambered, but that's actually only $500 of the cost. It is the hand carving of the top that is brutal.

3. Time value. It takes between two and three times as long to build a Presentation as it does a typical 5-string. So, just from the standpoint of keeping the shop going, if we don't charge as much as we do it would not make economic sense to build them.

4. The Titanium Truss Rod and Bridge are now options (and have been for the past three years) so that has nothing to do with the base price.

Finally, yes, AJ does personally work with us on the set-up of each one. He never charges us (and we never charge the customer) for this. Anthony enjoys being involved with the creation of each one. Please also know that Anthony has never received a penny in remuneration from Fodera over the course of our friendship. Yes, we do build his instruments and we do not get paid to do so, but we also never pay Anthony for the incredible amount of time, attention and real-world feedback he has provided over the years that has allowed us to improve all of our instruments, not just the Presentation.

It is a truly remarkable and wonderful relationship...one that Joey and Vinny have had the pleasure of enjoying for far longer than I have, but one that I too cherish.

Sonically and functionally there is no difference. They are made by two different suppliers for us. One has a slightly higher level of "fit and finish" than the other and correspondingly costs us more.

Can anyone please tell me the difference between the custom shop bridge and the standard bridge? I was thinking about updating the bridge on my Monarch, but I'm not sure which one I want or what I get for the difference in price.

and in the "Pre-Jason-Area" they have seem to used both versions for all of their basses (Customs & NYCs) - I have two elite's and one has the "NYC" bridge (which I've found out later because I didn't care :smug:) and one came with the actual "Custom" bridge...

both bridges do work fine for sure !

Just out of curiosity;
He's never paid for any of his Foderas and, is there a new one in the foreseeable future? :)
