Fodera Club Part X

Nope...the two in the foreground were both finished in our standard satin finish. Over time, however, when used and played regularly the finish will naturally rub out to look glossy...just by the constant friction from its player's touch.

The two basses in the foreground are:

1. Matt's first signature bass from 1995 which is 34" scale, Buckeye Top, Alder body, Ebony FB and 19.0mm spacing;

2. Matt's current signature bass from 1999 -- the one everyone associates with him -- 33" scale, Chestnut Top, Walnut Body, Ebony FB and 19.0 m spacing)

If the new instrument was to be an MGS...which I am, of course, neither confirming or denying, we would not use a one piece neck for the kind of build that would be necessary to create a "true" MGS (i.e. a single cutaway). A 3-piece neck with an angled PH would surely be employed to ensure that the player could consistently get the extremely ("absurdly" might be a better word) low action that Matt plays with. Accordingly, the price would not follow the pattern that you hypothesized.

Oh, and things like a ramp and drop tuner would also have to be part of any true MG Standard...if there was to be one...

Of course, we are all simply speculating here...

The current build should hit the Newborn page sometime in January...depending on how quickly everything comes together. Could be as early as the second week if all goes well.

It will be an incredibly thick, fairly hollow (far more than usual) body that will take some of the concepts that we used on Matt's semi-hollow bass and expand upon them. It should have far more acoustic properties than AJ's current Presentation...stay tuned!

when will we see Matt's semi-hollow since it was made some years ago ... ?! :)

or hasn't it made it's way to the newborns since it was more like a prototype ?

Am I the only one here who thinks this picture shows a bass with fanned frets??? Or is it just a tight photo with a wide angle lens causing distortion?

If you look carefully at the bottom image, and the bass in question far in the back, sure looks like the pickups could be angled, too. Then again, it could just be the angle at which the image was taken. Or, am I missing something obvious that everyone else already knows?

Does it make anyone else nervous that Matt is playing that bass wearing a leather jacket with metal snaps and zippers? :p


Also; ahhhhhh! The thought of a super thick bodied Fodera with acoustic properties is going to drive me nuts. That's the kind of thing that dreams are made out of, for me :D


I'm sure you're sworn to secrecy Jason, but would it be anything like this bass?

Hey sorry to bust in guys but this seemed like the best place to go with my question. Whenever I flip the truss rod on my Monarch I try to line it up with that picture on the Fodera pdf file but I can't really tell where the block at the end is, do you guys put it flush with the edge of the nut so that the length of the screw is fully exposed?
