Looking forward to seeing this one (but then I would, wouldn't I? you know my preferences...). Looks great! And you know a place to send it if it doesn't agree with you. :D

I can't get the thought of another Fodera out of my mind. But it's Fodera or a new car. Hhhmm.

no brainer. the car will depreciate very quickly and you'll have the bass forever.

Thus my 7 year old Prius with 70,000 miles on it. When I was young I had a BMW and one bass, now I have a pretty beat up car and a bunch of Foderas...I must say that this equation provides me more joy. That said if I had no car, as much as I love my Foderas, I would buy the care first. Family, healthcare, transportation and then bass...at least for me.

Obviously you need to sign up for the expenses of life - cars, health insurance, etc.

But, I don't view investing in a car and investing in something like a Fodera as being comparable at all.

Fast forward thirty years. Your car? It's in a junk heap - value is basically parts and scrap.

Your Fodera, if its been well cared for is now a "Vinny era" Fodera and probably worth several times what you paid for it.

The point is; a high quality musical instrument can be a legitimate investment. A car (that you use day to day) never is.

Here's a little tech question for you Fodera guys - I thought I'd try here first as I'm figuring Jason will be up to his neck in NAMM organising :)

I've been trying out a lovely 2010 Emperor 5 this morning and noticed it has the greatest difference in volume between passive & active that I've ever experienced with a Fodera.

Judging by the fact that the amp I was using had a -10db input pad for active basses I'd estimate the volume difference to be at least this much, maybe slightly more but that could just be the active tone circuit adding some perceived boost.

Is this active/passive volume difference something that could be set by the user from inside the controls?

Thanks guys - it sounds like it's been set to max boost on the active circuit. I'll test it against another Fodera I have handy :)

Edit - just tested and the output from the Emperor in active mode is indeed really high. I have a Bag End powered cab sitting here & it usually needs an additional pre-amp between it and the bass to get any real volume but the Emperor whacks out some serious noise just plugged straight into it!

Just open the back panel and turn the small white dial (using a small philips head screw driver) counterclockwise to reduce the boost...
