For better, or worse, we have opted not to sell gig bags and/or provide them with new instruments. Unfortunately everyone seems to have their own idea about what constitutes a great gig bag and so, we'll provide hardshell cases and let our customers determine where to go form there...

Personally, I don't care for standard hardshell cases. 95% of the time (for me), a quality gig bag with rigid sides offers a similar amount of protection, with more storage and easier use. The times that I need the protection of a hardshell case, I'd rather have a flight case or travel case...

I have a Reunion Blues Continental waiting to hold my Emperor S5. I'll keep my Fodera case it arrives in nice and shiny in my closet. :)

All these glowing reviews on the ES5 are not helping me with the wait, but when I compare a couple months to nearly two years, it feels like a snap.

thats a shame, i have an older Fodera gig bag that i bought maybe 5 or 6 years ago that is still going strong and is by far the best/most comfortable bag i have used, the things been on hundreds of gigs and been carted all over the UK and Europe on my back and is showing no sign of giving in. The only way i could imagine it being better would be to make it out of leather.

I thought that was pretty interesting to learn about. I'm hoping to do an ash body/mahogany block bass at some point, as I like mahogany instruments in general. Nice to know of a similar alternative.

I guess it depends on whether you are comfortable switching between B-G tuning and E-C tuning (assuming your MG is tuned that way). On the other hand, if you had a 6 string, you'd be switching between a relatively narrow neck and a wider one. So it's really all about what you are most comfortable with.

so this is the second bass ive seen with the pickup issue i was thinking about earlier. i think the other one was maybe mik's 16.5mm bass. these dual coils in emg cases have 20mm between the pole pieces which is a wider aperture (and whats available in the bassline series as the nyc soaps) and have to give a different sound than the duals in the normal cases which have an aperture of around 15mm. why not keep it the same when theyre in the emg cases?

im not talking string spacing. im talking about the distance between the two j style coils. this bass' pickups visually matches the distance on the emg sized phase 2 pickup (20mm)

the normal case has the j coils 15mm apart (center to center) and is noticeably closer together

My bad...you are absolutely right. The distance between the two pups on the "EMG Shaped" pups is 20mm and on our standard ones it is 15mm...

on the other hand . . . i like switching between different tunings (ranges) because they create different timbres and resonances, which means i have to think differently and come up with different things.

any reason why you guys dont have duncan space them the same when in emg covers so that theres tonal consistency? with as much thought you guys put into wood choice and its effects on tone, a wider aperture humbucker is going to be a pretty big deal.

Maybe the intention was to get an emg/Duncan combo vibe going...

I have to admit, I was close to contacting the shop about that bass, but found one at Austin bass traders that lined up better with the specs I had in mind. I hope it is there next week though! Would love to take it for a spin and provide comments on the difference between the two pickups.

with the way that duncan is constructed, even making the aperture wider, its not going to sound anything like an emg.

I didn't mean that it would, necessarily. Just that there was probably an intentional reason jn building it that was as opposed to using the 15mm spacing in a larger case. I'm in the same boat ad you as far as preferences in the two shapes, hence my purchase o a different emperor 5 over the one being discussed.
