"Customer service" is for people who don't read the product catalogs imo. I wouldn't expect anyone with customer service to have an answer to your questions as they are focused in the design not general product information.

We've been doing a bit of experimentation with Lindy's stuff lately. He is a lovely guy and great to work with. I had him make several sets of single coils for two of my basses to try out and Joey and I both really loved the set that ended up going into Christian's bass. Sonically they are based off of a set of 70's sounding Fender J pups. Compared with the Fodera / Duncans they are a wee bit brighter and open. We chose these because we were working with a Walnut bodied fretless and felt it would open things up a bit...I also knew that Christian happens to be a big fan of Lindy's work...

When creating a great sauce, it's all about finishing things off with the right seasonings...LOL!

I believe it's because an MG Imperial has an Ash neck & ebony finger board, this is a deviation from that and therefore becomes an Imperial with MG Shape. I found out the hard way by making almost the same change just recently.

Jason,

Do you guys have any Claro walnut that isn't burl but is still highly figured? Do you hear much difference between the claro and other walnut when used as a top?

I think the more porous/open nature of claro vs the tighter, more articulate sounding eastern black walnut is better fit for me tonally from what I've had people describe to me, though it's hard to say because I've never played a bass from the same builder that used claro and eastern walnut. I love the look of the crotch pieces more than the claro burl, as I like the flame like and linear patterns rather then the unusual circles that occur in those claro burl pieces.

I'm having an upright built right now that has a flamed claro back, sides, neck and scroll and thought it would be cool to match a new Fodera to it.

Maybe the difference in tone on a top would be to subtle worry about, and I should just go with what looks good to me, but if it makes a difference, I like to know what options I might have for claro.

Awesome wood choice for the upright bass. Should sound very interesting.

Concerning the sound of claro or burled walnut, I believe there is not much difference (the top wood itself has not a huge impact on the sound of the whole instrument as compared to the neck, body and fretboard I guess).

I could see a big difference in an upright, but very, very little as a top on one of our electrics, so go with what you love. NOT saying that there would not be a difference if you were comparing an Ebony top to a Buckeye top on one of ours basses, but the difference between Claro and Eastern would be too small to worry about...
