I could see a big difference in an upright, but very, very little as a top on one of our electrics, so go with what you love. NOT saying that there would not be a difference if you were comparing an Ebony top to a Buckeye top on one of ours basses, but the difference between Claro and Eastern would be too small to worry about...

I tried a Xotic with Fralin pickups that had no hum but that was because they were split jazz pickups and not single coils. Do they make a noiseless in another way?

Are you sure they were split jazz?

Xotic has some type of hum cancelling system that they install under the pickguard that really does take out the hum in single coil Frailins. I have a 4 and 5 string Xotic J bass and after I could no longer take the hum I sent the basses back and they installed the hum canceling system and it really does work.

The one I tried was an older Xotic that was for sale used and I was told it was built with Fralin JB splits. The HRI is neat and seems to be a setup utilizing a dummy coil.

A neat idea but not one that Fodera uses - at least that I'm aware of.

I don't think Fodera uses anything like that. I have a 5 string Imperial but I was thinking about my next Fodera possibly having single coils but not if the pickups hum when they're soloed.

I've seen alot of very nice tops, but for some reason this one sticks. What grabs you about this piece?

hmmm... I like it when Walnut tops have more that "earthy" looking figure where you can see the grain of the trunk.

I'm not a fan of (heavy) flame and burl (also there are some nice Walnut burl tops too but most of them (in general) look like the interior of a Mercedes )

I don't understand the difference between all the walnut tops ... maybe someone here can explain that to me - what is the difference between a claro walnut burl and a "normal" walnut burl top for example ??

That´s what Jason was talking about, there are different walnut trees that are used as tone wood. One is the "Juglans hindsii" which grows in North California, and "Juglans nigra" which grows in eastern North America.

I absolutely adore Walnut and this is the coolest piece I've seen on a top. I too am ignorant on the differences in Claro & Normal burl and could do with some education.

I don't think the guy's round here will be offended by the Mercedes thing, LoL. If it were a Prius or Skoda, you'd be getting some flak.

I was hoping they'd have more info on origin of species, how varieties are derived or how Californian Walnut differs from other US species, just more info. Anyway, I love walnut so the pictures are nice.

The bass is crazy to play. Jason was a big help in sharing the combined wisdom of Fodera in spec'ing this beast out. The sound is truly amazing. The playability is ridiculous.
