jason, i assume you guys have already played these some and might have some initial thoughts on them. would i be correct that you don't want to discuss these premlinary impressions until recording and video are done?

also, assume you're restringing them all when the process starts?

will you be doing with different string materials as well?

sorry, too much time on my hands this morning.

Actually I deliberately played each the very bare minimum to ensure a proper set-up. I want to be as "blind" as I can be when hearing the recordings...

Obviously I do have some initial impressions, but none I will share now.

They went to Matt's with a fresh set of strings on each and an identical set-up. We will not be recording them with different kinds of strings...

We expect to have the recordings and videos back from Matt next Thursday. For once and for all we will be able to actually hear the differences between a bolt-on, dovetail and neck-through bass.

All three were made from the same blocks of wood, built at the same time, have virtually identical weights (within one ounce of each other) and were set up identically.

We expect to post the sound clips and video on our website within 2-3 weeks.

A 5 string monarch...neck through...with dual coils...a Brazilian RW fingerboard...and a quilted maple top. Nostatic, if these go up for sale, I am totally screwed. :-) (my heart says 'Jason, pretty please!', but my other organs say 'I hope they are spoken for.')

Jason, this is a really neat project. I look forward to seeing the details. It makes for a great story.

Alas, after we are done recording them and learning from them, our good friends out at Bass San Diego will have all three. Not sure about whether or not they are spoken for, however...

I started speaking with Jason, and he hooked me up with Chris at Bass San Diego... Recommend them 100%... Great guy, easy to talk to, great communication... Call him up, and tell him Danny from Orlando sent ya! Lol ;-)

I was looking hard at the E5 Standard as well, because it's within the realm of possibility if I start saving now. And save up for like, five years (which is incidentally *exactly* what I did for the Sadowsky I received a couple of months ago). The only issue is that I won't rock gold hardware.

I started going through the service and parts price list, with an eye towards getting the hardware changed to black, and things got comical pretty quick. I'm still sort of percolating on it, though, and i'm putting a little $ in the bass fund, just in case. I think that if one comes across the classifieds at some point, I'm going to grab it and swap the hardware. I love everything else about that model enough to run the, uh... wifely blockade for one.

You wouldn't have to pay for all new hardware. If the instrument was ordered with us knowing in advance about the hardware we could do black hardware for a rather small change fee...

Luckily I'm on a "no B-string" kick at the moment so I'm safe. Plus I assume these are 19mm spaced bridges. I've become picky in my old age.

On a semi-related note - the YYD through my Tecamp rig sounds freaking sick. Fingers crossed, I'm done with gear churn for awhile.

I just did my order with you guys few days back. I just got to know that i can change to black hardware from here. Is it still possible for me to change it? :D Thanks for the help =)
