Just been comparing pic's (Monarch 5 v MG standard) and I really can't tell. If there's a difference it'll be marginal, shouldn't be enough to make a great difference.
I think the biggest challenge lies in getting acquainted with the single-cut.
Would that be a deal breaker for you? I wonder how others took to, or didn't to the shape?

Glad to hear it's still part of the pack. I find it hard to quantify selling a great bass for the sake of "it not receiving enough playtime," but
I guess factors such as, What does your current playing situation demand against how many axes are in the stable might attribute to thinning the herd.

I still can't get it outta my head about Garey parting with his Koa6, sorry ..but I couldn't do it.

I found a pic of that bass with Vinnie playing it in the shop (I thought I had a few more), I wouldn't post it without the owners or Vinnies consent, but please post one Garey if you can.
People ought to see that bass one more time, fantastic work by Vinnie and all at the shop.;)

Luckily Jason is a fan of Rob's work so I think we're ok. That bass isn't up for sale even though I'm not currently playing it. I'm a "minimum number of instruments" kinda guy, but that one will stay as sculpture if nothing else. I haven't been playing it as I've been concentrating on 4-string and have migrated away from 35" scale.

I've sold a bunch of really nice basses that I either didn't quickly bond with or wasn't playing. Stueart and I were talking about this over the weekend. He's a patient guy who will work with a bass to figure out how it fits into his playing. I'm the opposite - if I don't "get it" quickly, it is gone. I'm going to try and be a bit more patient with the MGS as I anticipate some challenges with the high-C string.

I've seen some great 35"s recently, but I can't touch anything over 34".
I almost talked myself out of going for a six, but like yourself, I'm going to take it slow and try to enjoy the experience. I anticipate a steep learning curve but hey, that's half of the fun.;)

The Fodera 6 will open up a whole new world of creativity. I just love my Olive, especially with the 17.5 spacing. It almost plays like a 5. Yummy!

Actually, at its wides point the MGS is nominally wider than a Monarch 4 -- on the order or 1/4-1/2" in total at its widest point...

Absolutely. As a matter of fact, just last week a customer was in our shop looking for a "really upright sound." Rather than have him be disappointed, I told him that Rob was going to cop that tone closer than anyone else I am aware of building a compact electric instrument.

Cool, I think it is just the photo angle. I didn't recall it feeling smaller (or much larger) when I played it at NAMM. Sunday I was doing some tracking with one of my drummers and I was wishing that I had a C-string to use as I was running out of neck. :D

yeah can't wait for my mgs next month! Gotta have that C-string. I play a 6 right now but I feel that 6 is too big, I rather have one 5 string with C string and one with a B, just gig with both... very rarely do I feel the need to use both the B and C in the same tune anyways.

yep! i like the darker buckeye, but really any buckeye looks nice they all have their own character. I think it was supposed to ship this week but I told them to hold it for later (i don't want the ups/fedex people leaving a fodera in front of my apartment for a week!)
