I have a 1998 Emperor II 5 string with 20mm string spacing at the bridge.
I bought it used so I was wondering,was 20mm spacing 'standard' on Emperor II's at that time?

Guys just a bit of a heads up..... I was in Sydney bass specialty store yesterday and noticed they just got a new Fodera Emperor 2 Elite, a stunning bass with a sensational buckeye burl top. The story goes they ordered it quite a while ago, you know how long these basses take to make. In the meantime the shop has announced they are closing down, but it was too late to cancel the order.
They are obviously pretty keen to move it on before they close, so this could be a great opportunity to grab a premium model without having to wait for it to be built. I know for a fact they ship for free worldwide because they've done so before on Alembics, Ritters and other premium instruments. I don't see why it wouldn't be worthwhile trying your luck with them and see if you can snag this lovely bass before my wife changes her mind and let's me buy it

Nick is no longer in the same building as us. I do know from speaking with Nick that he recognizes some things about his Company that he very much wants to improve. Like Joey and Vinny used to be, he is so busy working on his product that there is precious little time to really work at the "front of the house."
In terms of our Customer Service, I am always thrilled when people give us a shout out here for our efforts in this area. We have some really, really special people that all put an incredible amount of love into what they do. So although my name gets mentioned a lot because I am on TB, we are very, very much a Team and you should all know all of us. We are (not in any order)...

No, the bridge spacing is adjustable and the person that owned it before you might have had us build it for him that way. Standard has always been 19.0mm although the bridge can definitely accommodate nearly 20.0mm if teh neck was carved wide enough to allow for it...

amazing to see how you now can run a company with that many employees and that everybody gets his monthly salary - if you look back that might show that "buissness" was not the best strenght of Joey and Vinny and their small team when they were close to broke (and their team was only 4-5 people if I remember correctly...)

What's the consensus on how additional neck laminations affect the tone ( like a 5 pc vs 3 pc)? I assume the neck is stiffer, does this reduce the punchiness? Does adding say purpleheart stringers to a ash or mape neck add articulation? Or warmth?

After now a few weeks with my Emperor 5.... (and now 13 gigs under my belt with it)
All i can say : This bass is ridiculous, and the way it sits in a band's mix is stunning. Probably the best Bstring I've ever heard. I have never had so much compliments on my sound. I used to get a few, but now I get some every single time...
and well ... it does look properly awesome!.. Good thing I have no wife, she'd feel lonely!

Hey Jason, hope I don't come out presumptuous. I have here a old 1998 brochure that says string spacing 'on most models' 25/32" which translate in ~19.85mm (pretty much 20mm). I owned a very early (1987?) Monarch 5 with LP and H-L 3band pre , that was setup at 20mm.
On this subject, do you guys know what year was the H-L 3band pre first installed?

If this had a light one piece alder body I'd almost be tempted...only, it would not have any dots on the face or the side of the fretboard and different pickups, possibly only one and quite possibly be just passive...but mostly I'd have to have the money, of course .

see, this in a 6-string really piques my interest. probably need to be dual coils or nordy big singles (cause i don't think anyone does legit 6-string j pickups?)
Bartolini, Aero and EMG do. I'm sure Nordstrand would if asked. But seeing as this is Fodera, I'm sure they could have it done too.
admittedly, i've not done any serious research on it. when i win the lottery and order a matched fretted/fretless pair, i'll get a little more serious about that ;-)
that being said, i love the bartolinis as people, but am not into their pickups for my thing at this time. the aero dude rubbed me the wrong way and i'm too small to forgive that. emgs . . . maybe. i was just trying to think of something off the top of my head that was pretty close.
I very much am...I might even ask if I could have one without that butterfly on the head...if I had the money in the first place.
Mind you...if I had the money and wanted a fodera at that time I'd have one built to my spec including an altered body and head shape.
