I have not personally noticed a difference in tone. The only way to really tell would be to build two identical basses and make one with a 3-piece and one with a 5-piece neck and A/B them...

Not presumptuous at all! You learn something every day. Joey and Vinny have always communicated it to me as 19.0mm and this goes back at least 5 years. I also know that every bass (except the Presentation) with our "standard" spaced bridge gets set up at 19.0mm center to center.
All of my old Foderas are set up that way too...of course one of the first things that I do when buying a used instrument is a complete set-up and so mine have always been set-up at 19.0mm.

Hey Jason, hope I don't come out presumptuous. I have here a old 1998 brochure that says string spacing 'on most models' 25/32" which translate in ~19.85mm (pretty much 20mm). I owned a very early (1987?) Monarch 5 with LP and H-L 3band pre , that was setup at 20mm.
On this subject, do you guys know what year was the H-L 3band pre first installed?

That is actually one of a limited edition 10-piece run that has been dubbed the "GTR Standard" for the Dealer (GTRStore) in New Jersey that commissioned us to build them for them. They are an exclusive for GTRStore and they are wonderful sounding and feeling instruments...

If this had a light one piece alder body I'd almost be tempted...only, it would not have any dots on the face or the side of the fretboard and different pickups, possibly only one and quite possibly be just passive...but mostly I'd have to have the money, of course

We actually would not build one without the butterfly in the headstock...sorry!

Mind you...if I had the money and wanted a fodera at that time I'd have one built to my spec including an altered body and head shape.

Yes, maple and purple heart neck. It weights 12.5-13lbs! I asked Jason that max weight be no more than 30lbs so I think they did a good job.

absolutely a brilliant bass!!!...I see you have exposed core strings (AJ set)...just like to know your thoughts....I use expose cores...and find them tight and articulate...i have read many dislikes...but Im truly a fan!...thoughts?

I have used taper core for years and always liked them. Even though I have used nickel strings for decades I am finding the sound of this set interesting. The instrument is very articulate and I want to put a different set of strings on to hear if there is a big difference.

Wow. The evenness of the grain and flame make the top look kind of like plaid. Or tattersall maybe. Cool.
The MGS continues to amaze. Jazz hit last night and it was enticing me into some dangerous waters. Luckily I was working with a great drummer and everyone else followed along. Some playing with a pick in this, chords and double stops (some of them even the in key
