Nope! I have sold basses for a Fodera a few times. Best bass I have ever owned. I finally found the "One" and I'm completely happy. No more GAS for basses, now just for cars and bass amps:D

Here she is:

Lovely bass you've got there. Can I just say that the old style backdrop for the newborn pics are much better IMHO. The outer edges are always crisp and lend detail whereas the Three new pics due to the new shadowing effect lack that definition.

Easy..

That would be a massive undertaking for us. One that we are not staffed to handle. I wish that we could...sorry!

J

Oh, I didn't mean to suggest, comparing basses and I didn't mean to suggest that this had to be done by fodera :).
I was thinking that an owner of such a short scale bass doing clips in high resolution to demonstrate the instrument.:)

Jason, great work on the clips. That was a cool exercise.

I hate to pile on but I, too, really dislike the new photos. It looks like you've gone to less lighting perhaps? There are too many shadows around the body and the lighting in general seems a bit too harsh. Sorry! Please take this feedback only in the spirit it is intended (constructive vs critical.)

ha - you are at least the 5th person who says that :hiding:

and you might be right about the less lightning - I have the impression too that the figure and colours of the woods don't pop up anymore like they used to do in the past

of course everything that we're are saying is constructive feedback :)

Basically, yes. You are playing half notes instead of walking with quarter notes. But it's also a feel thing. I personally think that developing a better 2 feel made my quarter note walking lines feel better. if you can make half notes GROOVE, then you're really cooking. Better yet, if you can make whole notes groove ;),... It's also about space. Leaving the right amount of space in any instrument (rhythm section or other) is really important. For my money Steve Gadd is the king of space. Especially the recordings with Gadd and Anthony Jackson (like the Michel Petrucciani trio).

Best resource is just listening to some of the players that other people were posting about earlier. Ray Brown, Ron Carter, any of those old school upright guys. AJ has a great two feel.

I can go on forever about this. I've really come to appreciate and love how simpler bass parts or drum parts just leave the right amount space for everything else, and then still groove like crazy and all of these subtle details just all in to place. It gives room to build the song dynamically. That being said, I still love busy jacoish bass lines as well!!

I'm definite going to check out more clips and such. Looks like a fairly portable skill to have.

I love looking at the newborns. I search through the past years and read all the specs and every bass is just a knockout, I mean "All" the basses really stand out. So when the latest shots were posted I wasn't sure if the silhouette was intended or if there was a lighting problem because they didn't pop, they looked too subdued...

C'mon J, let those basses pop!....Please?

Whoh! all of them? There's a guy who's avatar pic is the top for his newborn who's name escapes me because it's almost unpronounceable "Osmo" something, with the wicked Burl top. I'm sure his is the first pic on the newbie page, but I had to go back and forth between the avatar and newborn pics to confirm. Now that's a stunning top, but it doesn't pop on the newb's page. Just my 2cents FWIW..

All i can say is WOW......This is STUNNING, you are one lucky person. Congrats on that baby.

Dear Fodera'ers... I'm strongly considering my first fodera but I'll have to sell my Warwick 6 thumb bo and a musician stingray bfr to do it. I'm curious if any of you were in the same situation and regretted selling other basses to get the fodera...

I sold a USA MTD bass and a Roscoe Century Signature, both incredible basses from very respected makers to get into my first Fodera last year, and it was a great move. Getting into those two basses took a lot of hunting and years of work to purchase, so it was not a decision I took lightly, but I still wasn't getting the tone I had in my head out of my instruments and there wasn't much left to try. It was like trading a BMW and an Audi in to get a Ferrari. Not an easy choice but you only play one bass at a time!

For me, having one really incredible bass beats having two-three very good basses. I'm only keeping one other fretted bass in my arsenal for now. I've always gotten by with a 1-2 fretted basses and a fretless. It would be fun to have more, but even as a full time player there's not much I can't do with my Fodera.

FWIW I've gigged on both of your basses (Stingray and high end Warwick) and they're great and would cut it almost anything I have to plat, but it's no comparison IMHO.

Mike "I really like Fodera bass players" Stern is hitting the 55 bar for the late shows Monday and Wednesday the next two weeks. Tom Kennedy on bass on 8/15, Janek Gwizdala on 8/20 and 8/22. I hope to be there with my wife on 8/15. We'll be in the seats right next to Mike (our favorite spot)!

I've heard him with Bona, Jackson, McBride (on upright that night), Goines. So many great Fodera players playing with the preeminent jazz guitarist.
