FWIW I've gigged on both of your basses (Stingray and high end Warwick) and they're great and would cut it almost anything I have to plat, but it's no comparison IMHO.

I'm with Robin... I got rid of a couple Status basses to get my Emperor Standard and it was a great decision. My Standard is not only versatile, but it sounds fantastic. We played a "musicians" type club this week and a number of bass buddies came up afterwards to compliment the sound of my Emperor Standard /DB70s-GS412 setup. I couldn't have been happier.

I still have great love for my other basses and in particular my main bass will be my ZON customized TJ6 when it arrives, but my Fodera will always be in my double bag.

I've played pretty much all the top gear out there over the years and without a doubt it was worth getting rid of many of my other basses to land this one.

Kudos to the fine folks at Fodera for the specs and construction on this monster.

I'm getting closer. Just sold the Sadowsky and am selling a Bluesman Vintage. For most gigs it is YYD and RA (jazz hit) or YYD and koa (rock) though the MGS changes that a bit. I can't see being down to only one as I like fretted and fretless. I may be able to get below 5...we'll see.

I'm hanging with a good friend on Sunday who has one of the first ES5's. It will be the first time I get to be up close and personal with one. I sense there will be a disturbance in the "I only have one Fodera" force. ;-)

The NYC continues to impress. Another R&B/Funk jam last night - response was very positive.

I have two basses that I really wouldn't want to be without and one that I wouldn't mind selling, but it didn't work out the way I thought it would: I have a Sadowsky Standard 5 that I love, and which isn't going anywhere. I also have a 2008 American Standard P5 that I love way more than I thought I would, and I have a Lakland 5502 that I'm surprised to say I'd gladly sell towards the downpayment for a Fodera.

Now, it's the *rest* of the Fodera money that's the problem ;)

Was that a PJ? I seem to remember seeing you attached to something sunburst, and PJ sounds right. I guess I could just go look up your posts, but this phone makes TBing kinda painful...

The Sadowsky was a sunburst HPJ. Nice bass, but I'm just going to play Foderas for anything that needs frets. Both my Monarchs are PJ as well.

What was it made you opt for the monarch over the emperor? I have never had the opportunity to interact in a meaningful way with a Fodera, do I'm going purely on looks and sound. I have a 'dreambass' built in my mind, and it's based on the emperor. Is there a comfort difference between the two?

I may have to get to Brooklyn...

Well, over the past year or so I've gone through:

Fodera YYS
Fodera YYD
Fodera Monarch 4 (a couple of them)
Fodera Emperor 5
Fodera MGS
Sadowsky HPJ4
Sadowsky R5-24
Nordstrand VP/bigsplit 5
Skjold 92 5
Elrick PJ4
Fender TF fretless 4
Fender P4
Fender AmDlx PJ4
Bluesman Vintage P4
Roscoe C5 (fretted and fretless)
a couple of Rob Allens (fretted and fretless)

Yikes. Anywho, there are a couple of things that I've distilled down to:

- I prefer a PJ
- I prefer 24 frets
- I don't like 35" scale
- I don't like 19mm bridge spacing on a 5-string
- I prefer a "P" body shape (Monarch is roughly similar) to a "J" (Emperor is similar)
- I'm picky about little details

For body shape I just don't like an offset body style. It doesn't feel as good to me. Monarch all the way. But even within that Fodera has a couple of different control layouts and I find that I prefer the Monarch layout to the Emperor layout (especially on a Monarch body with PJ pups).

Some guys aren't as picky and are comfortable with whatever. And it also depends on aesthetic preferences.
