Okay, I'm an ignoramus when it comes to jazz. Is the 2 feel when two of the notes in 4/4 are half notes? If I'm off the mark completely, does anyone know of a good online resource I can use to learn more about this stuff? I find that a lot happens in Jazz that some other styles just never feature.

Basically, yes. You are playing half notes instead of walking with quarter notes. But it's also a feel thing. I personally think that developing a better 2 feel made my quarter note walking lines feel better. if you can make half notes GROOVE, then you're really cooking. Better yet, if you can make whole notes groove ,... It's also about space. Leaving the right amount of space in any instrument (rhythm section or other) is really important. For my money Steve Gadd is the king of space. Especially the recordings with Gadd and Anthony Jackson (like the Michel Petrucciani trio).

Best resource is just listening to some of the players that other people were posting about earlier. Ray Brown, Ron Carter, any of those old school upright guys. AJ has a great two feel.

I can go on forever about this. I've really come to appreciate and love how simpler bass parts or drum parts just leave the right amount space for everything else, and then still groove like crazy and all of these subtle details just all in to place. It gives room to build the song dynamically. That being said, I still love busy jacoish bass lines as well!!

finaly found the time to listen through the neck compare sound samples: i`m for bolt-on all the way ! guess thats because of my listening habits when it comes to music per se. in my ears it sounds more "open" with a bit more bite in the voice not that "even" than the other 2 but in a good way..

i`d really like to hear those three in different band settings to see how they fit in the mix - i know the differences are very subtile and with the pope pre you can get those basses being the star of every venue but i can imagine the bolt-on in a more popular music setting better (pop, funk, motown, rock even harder stuff) while the other 2 seem to match in more moderate ensambles better like jazz or fusion.. but thats pure pigeonholing - as we all know: in real life they all fit anywhere best!

Actually, playing half notes is at the fundamental core of many, many styles of harmonically oriented music; jazz, country, bossa nova and other brazilian styles, and pop rock, for example. The differences are often just in the decorations, note lengths, rhythmic variations etc.

If I could find an example of someone playing a two feel on a Fodera I would post it!

The neck on the MGS is addicting. I had a 3+ hour gig last night (with no breaks - the life of a house bass player) and did every tune except one on the MGS. Easily the most comfortable 5 I've owned (that spot previously occupied by a Nordy). I think the small frets are a key part of it along with the 33" scale and 17.5mm spacing. That is just a magic combination.

I think I may need a chambered Monarch in that spec

Dear Fodera'ers... I'm strongly considering my first fodera but I'll have to sell my Warwick 6 thumb bo and a musician stingray bfr to do it. I'm curious if any of you were in the same situation and regretted selling other basses to get the fodera...

I sold maybe four basses and that was for the deposit! I don't regret it although they were all very fine instruments. I am still trying to sell off a few more things to make room. I don't want three six strings around.

Nope! I have sold basses for a Fodera a few times. Best bass I have ever owned. I finally found the "One" and I'm completely happy. No more GAS for basses, now just for cars and bass amps
