I know a fairly famous Toronto bassist that has used a leather Reunion blues gig bag forever. They are built like brick $h!thouses! Expensive, but I guess you have to think about what thy are protecting....

Success!!!!!!!!



For all of those that gave me advice and support, I just wanted to say thanks. I was able to solve the issues I was having from switching pickups out on my Monarch. For anyone that didn't see my previous posts, I was having a lot of buzzing after switching to passive pickups from EMG's and the pickups I put sounded muddy and not nearly as good as I was hoping.


I shielded the entire pickup cavity in copper foil and soldered a wire to the shielding. I then ran the lead from both pickup cavities as well as the ground wire from the bridge, soldered them all together and used a star washer and screw to mount them to the inside of the electronics cavity. I then also soldered the wires and screw to the wall of the electronics cavity to make sure there was a good connection. I ran one wire from the grounding point to my preamp and the completely and totally fixed the buzzing issue. It's now just as dead quiet as the EMG's were.

I swapped out the D. Allen precision pickup for a Lindy Fralin, so now I have a matching set with the Fralin overwound lateral humbucker. The tone is absolutely fantastic now and everything I was going for. It's super punchy and thick with excellent clarity. I can pan to the P pickup and get great old school punchy P tones and the bridge pickup is much more useful than a regular single coil. Since, it's overwound and a humbucker, it is much thicker sounding than a normal single coil.

That's all in passive mode too. I can kick in the Flexcore and I have pretty much infinite tones to choose from and they all sound great!

Thanks again for the advice and support guys. I couldn't be happier with the outcome now. The guys at Fodera should really think about offering Fralins OEM. They sound fantastic passive and through the Pope preamp.

I have no problems with fret access on my fodera bolt on. It might be a personal thing, but having owned all the three neck joints and spending a lot of time at the highest frets, I'm comfy on all three. I've liked bolt on the best, probably because that's what I'm used to.

I am generally a bolt on guy and my E5S is obviously a bolt on but I ordered my Custom Monarch 5 as a dovetail (Deluxe). I hate to admit it but I ended up going this route more for look, resale and a bit for upper fret access. I still may go bolt.

Decisions, decisions!

I've been a bolt on guy my whole life, but after having this Imperial Elite for a while now, I realize it's just a completely different animal and I now prefer that feel. I think you can do a bit more with dying strings on a bolt on, as I notice once my strings die on my neck through, the tone is just GONE. Maybe it's just my basses, I don't know....

Hey guys I have a couple questions and I think here is the place to ask (correct me if wrong). On basscentral they have a couple Fordera NYC basses. One is a natural/maple neck NYC Empire 4 that I am interested in. There isn't a whole lot of info on the bass on the website and I don't see anything there about this line, I heard somewhere they were discontinued? OK here are my questions:

Who makes the pickups are are they active or passive?
It says its a 2-band NYC EQ, so is that Volume/Tone/Bass/Mid/Treble?

That's all.

I love Foderas but as a college student they really are out of my price range. I graduate soon and am getting married this year so maybe once things settle down, but frankly I love these MYC models. Thanks if you guys can help!

2-band is bass/treble. The NYC models are discontinued, and had some of the build done in Japan, with finishing done in NY. The pickups should be Duncan or EMG (that should be easy to figure out).

There's a reason that the Monarchs I have on order are both Elites. Not that the bolt-on access is bad, just isn't as nice as the dovetail and the neck-through is even better.

my Viceroy Bolt-On is as easy to play in the higher register as it is on my elite ;) - I think you can always say with your order that the guys please shape the upper horn to your needs for a better access

Just got a note from my luthier that my Emperor-fretless project is nearly complete - he only does spray the Macasser covers the next days, maybe I'll let him build a Macassar back-plate and also he will fit me a new ramp when I'm going to pick it up. He's pretty sure that the Bass will sound awesome in it's new fretless-role :) - can't wait to hear it :)
