Really looking forward to hear this fretless !

Just got a note from my luthier that my Emperor-fretless project is nearly complete - he only does spray the Macasser covers the next days, maybe I'll let him build a Macassar back-plate and also he will fit me a new ramp when I'm going to pick it up. He's pretty sure that the Bass will sound awesome in it's new fretless-role :) - can't wait to hear it :)

They are our Stainless 45-105 set. Yes, some wear is the downside of using roundwounds on a fretless, but that's part of the price of that tone. That said, Ebony is about as hard a FB material as you can find...

That Pink Ivory was in the shop for 20 years before it was used and is VERY stable. That said, as a relative of Ebony it needs to be oiled every 3-4 months and kept in a reasonably humidified environment (i.e. no 5% humidity winters!). If you do both of those it will last forever (or at least longer than any of us)...

But there are 2 things that make me doubt: the pink ivory fingerboard and the 36" scale. The pink ivory wood is prone to cracking, and the 36" seems to be uncomfortable to play (I'm used to 34").

Can you please share your thoughts and experiences with this fingerboard and scale? Thank you!

Joey's running favorite is probably Caymus Cab with the Special Selection for special occasions. I am partial to red Burgundy -- the older the better! And Vinny? He pretty much loves whatever Joey and I are pouring...LOL!

Sadly, if you dig 'em, run (don't walk) to Ultimate Basses as we just made several instruments for them with Ebony stringers and we really have almost no ebony material left worthy of being used as stringers...it's just getting too scarce to "waste" on stringers...

Thanks for the interest!

Yes, we replaced the NYC line in early 2011 with the Standard line. That said, we still had some NYC's in production as late as the end of 2011, early 2012 and Bass Central bought most of the last of them (Sam Ash in NYC bought the remaining ones).

The PUP's are passive and are wound by a longtime friend of Joeys that has made many of our in-house pickups. The preamp is an OEM unit that we have used for the NYC's and has bass / trebble only (thus the 2-band). You also get a passive tone roll off. Some are volume-volume and some have a blend pot...

Ok, before anyone slaps me or Jason faints, I am not talking about buying a new Fodera and giving the belt sander treatment to the body and an acid bath to the HW. God forbid!

Just curious if any of you have seen considerable (natural!) wear on your Foderas?

I ask as at first, the matte finish on my Fodera looked like it would wear very quickly. After a few months of playing, I am seeing how hard this finish really is.

No need for pics of VW's worn Monarch, but how do these basses wear over time with heavy use?

If you've seen pictures of mine, it is pretty heavily worn. There's players wear from the tip of the headstock to the strap lock on the bottom of the bass. There's a spot under the G string that's worn down well into the maple top from slapping. Also, the satin finish has been buffed up to gloss where my forearm rests and up and down the neck. All of it is honest wear, not abuse, and the bass plays like a dream. It's nice that I don't have to worry about bumping into things and really just get to play it all the time and treat it like the instrument it is. Hell, I let my one and a half year old play my bass every time it's in my hands. The first time she crawled it was to get to the headstock. She was kissing the butterfly last time I played it with her. It's my "roadworn" Fodera. :-)

I've been meaning to ask, does anyone know where to get a single knob to match the stacked knobs Fodera uses? I'm using the the plastic knob they normally use for my blend right now, but I'd really like to have a matching set of black metal knobs.

I bought an Allparts knob, but it doesn't really match. It's too glossy, the knurling isn't as fine and there's a little bit of brass showing where the threads are for the locking screw.

Shucks!! I was living in hope that the folks who hang at this club hadn't set eye's on Dave's 30th Anniversay builds.
I had my fingers & toes crossed in the hope that I could pull a rabbit (or three) outta the bag...better un-cross em now.

Oh well! someone' with nice deep pockets is going to snap up those beaut's.
