Fodera Club Part XIX

Hi guys!

I have a hard time with a decision. There are two Emperor II for sale, and both are gorgeous. One is built with wonderful woods, but has 36". And the other has 34" which is great, but it has simpler combination of woods.

Get the one with the holly top. Pink Ivory wood is cool, but the 36" scale would put me off.

I wouldn't say that the woods on that one are 'simpler', holly is way rarer than buckeye. It also looks like the second one has a walnut body (although it could be mahogany), which I love on Foderas.

simple can be even more elegant ;) - everybody who sees my Holly Viceroy says that it is the most beautiful and elegant Fodera that they've ever seen ... so enough for that ;):D

I remember you had the Presentation shape 6string, (36" scale) up for sale sometime ago, how did you get on with a 36"?

If your comfortable with 36" and your only consideration is the combination of woods then you can take a chance. I think someone pointed out to you that there's a demo clip of the buckeye EmpII by "The Chicago Bass Club" on youtube, did you like sound of the combination of woods, what was your impression?

Both are outstanding basses, but in the end you have to choose the one that's most comfortable for you and I'd guess the Holly top 34" is the one, although the wood combination is probably not as exciting.

If the buckeye top, Pink Ivory f/b was 34" scale, then I would say, take a chance! Either way, beware, your going to spend a lot of money, so be sure you can live with your decision.

This would be a very easy decision for me and it has nothing to do with scale length. The holly top one is way cooler than the other. Holly is such a classy looking wood.

I'd get the holly top, myself. I LOVE the other one, though, the sound (on Bass Club Chicago) is utterly stupendous, though! I've said before, the 36" scale would be tough for me, being a short person...

From a purely aesthetic view, however, the holly is just absolutely stunning. Class, class, class...which is why I'm considering holly for a Emperor II for my next Fodera. I could just get the one that's for sale, but it's in Europe, right? Plus...I've got some ideas for woods for my own instrument, AND, mine would be a 5 string... Can't beat that Ebony board against a holly top...but I'd do black hardware...and probably no inlays on the board.

Holly is a very elegant wood, but it becomes yellow in several years...

My previous Fodera (MG Signature) had walnut body and I wasn't too happy with it. My ash Fender sounded way better. And this 36" Fodera has ash body...

ah, let's see if that will happen ;) - I do also love Vintage White basses so everything that looks cream white, mint greenish, a little eggshellish ;) - is fine with me :cool:

That Presentation shape was 34" scale. And it was very comfortable to play. I regret selling it. I saw the demo on Bass Chicago Club, and was impressed with the sound. It's gorgeous! But I'm still afraid of 36". It's a lot of money.

You are right, the combination of woods on the holly is not so exiting. If it had ash body I think it would be a no-brainer!

again - 36' scale can be played - ok, a 36' scale 6 with 19mm is a big fretboard ;) - but it can be played - and we all know how comfortable Vinny and Vadym shape our necks, right ? ;)

Yes, 36" scale would be tough for me too. It seems that the holly is the winner. I didn't expect to have the winner so soon :)

No one has voted for the 36". That is why it's still for sale...
