How did you find the comfort / balance of the Emp2?

I ask because I have one with that body in progress.

Well the history was half the desire to be honest and I actually did think about a similar build, maybe with a top wood though, but then the more I thought about the build the more the specs were changing and that's when I arrived at the current specs I have in mind now. They might change a bit tomorrow when I call Jason to talk about it and start the order so we'll see then. (I'd still love the Essence bass though!!!:bassist:)

In the "pre Jason area" the guys have tried to bring out an "Essence" Imperial - it had no top wood and was reduced to a minimum of specs - they thought that they were able to build one of those from time to time in little batches if I remember correctly... well, not more than two or three (?) have made it to life ;)

Mike let me play it for a bit at NAMM a few years back.. Very nice feel,, good sound. I always dug the look.

Just looked at your specs again, and your bass looks like it's going to be killer as well.

I have a question about Mahogany, since it has come up in Munji's other thread about his newborn beauty.
I've noticed that the shade of Mahogany has gotten lighter it seems. I've also noticed in the newborn section of Fodera's website that some basses are listed as having 'dark' mahogany, while some are just mahogany. I'm guessing they only use Honduran, but is there a difference at all? Or is it something that can just be requested for the sake of looks..

"Honduran" used to mean that the Mahogany actually came from Honduras. Now "Honduran" means the mahogany is the same species as the one that used to come from Honduras. True Honduran mahogany (from Honduras) is no longer exported.

Just like with Ebony, we select our Mahogany for tone..NOT color. The vast majority of our mahogany comes from Central and South America. It differs very widely in terms of density and color, so matching the right piece of wood with the right instrument spec takes a little bit of doing.

We are looking into some Mahogany grown on Fiji. We will see how that all works out...

Better late than never..
Here's a few shots of my Imperial (MG Shape) 33" 6string, I couldn't ask for a better bass.
