Sounds like you are gonna have one sweet bass there!! Bet you'll enjoy having something custom made even more than the essence bass. 19mm spacing would make me unhappy in the long run.

Wow, I can't believe that bass sold for less than 6k. Good thing I did not know it was for sale. I would have had the ski mask on in the local bank for sure.

Haha, ya I know. Mike had someone selling it for him and I sorted out something with Mike but the guy selling it never got Mikes message and agreed a sale with someone else. No-ones fault, it happens unfortunately.

So far, my new specs are:

Body Shape: Monarch Deluxe (compact)
Scale Length: 33"
# of Frets: 24
# of Strings: 5 (17.5mm spacing)
Peghead type: Modern 2+3
Top: Spalted Maple
Body Wood: Walnut
Fingerboard: Ebony???
Thin/Fast neck
Control Layout: Monarch
Pickups: Duncan Dual Coils/Ramp
Hardware: Black
Extras: Drop-D Tuner

These will probably change a bit before production starts so we'll see.

What is the scale length? It looks like the bridge is set fairly forward (towards the bridge pickup.) In other words, there seems to be more space between the bridge and the end of the body than normal -- If that makes sense. Could be an optical illusion.

It's a 34-inch scale. The body is bigger than that of my Emperor. The bridge is pretty far from the end of the bass.

It's really hard to see the figuring in the picture of a wood blank. The flame on this is a lot more intense than I expected. Them Fodera people got 'em some insane planks out there.

Is it an actual AJ, or AJ shape with accoutrements? Whatever it is, I bet it will rule.

Check this out. See how the tuners all line up in the same direction when the bass is in tune? Those guys at Fodera are SO clever. The bass came in with the neck perfectly straight. The action was low for me, so Chris put a tiny amount of relief in the neck and raised the B string just a skosh. The action is still low, and doesn't buzz unless I really dig in ... er, I mean ... unless a bass player really digs in.

I bought this one to play in my Classic Rock band. My Emperor is a little too tame for that.
