nice bass Robin. I think I prefer the emperor 2 you had. It seems like it had a richer sound and a much better B string. Of course I am sure it sounds better in person than on the speakers I am listening to it on.

The emp 2 is still for sale, BTW, and it is very rich sounding! Go back and compare the B's though. I'm sure different people might hear them differently.

It's a 34-inch scale. The body is bigger than that of my Emperor. The bridge is pretty far from the end of the bass.

I believe that I have seen this bridge location a lot in the past on Fodera's Bolt-Ons.... maybe this has sth. to do where the neck sits ??

Do you also have to stretch your arm a little more to get to the first fret now compared to your Deluxe ???

Actually, Robin I had a chance to listen to the video on better speakers and now think I may slightly prefer your new bass. Both sound great. The new one sounds real similar to an Emperor Elite I used to own that had a redwood top, ash body, and braz rosewood fingerboard which was the best sounding Fodera I've ever played.

The emp 2 is still for sale, BTW, and it is very rich sounding! Go back and compare the B's though. I'm sure different people might hear them differently.

Wow, that's a very nice bass. I tend not to love dark tops, but I make an exception for walnut. It's also fog a really good slap sound.

Your other Fodera, though, is an *epic* bass. I can see how you'd find uses for both, as they sound so different.

What's the weight difference between the two?

Sounds like you are gonna have one sweet bass there!! Bet you'll enjoy having something custom made even more than the essence bass. 19mm spacing would make me unhappy in the long run.

Wow, I can't believe that bass sold for less than 6k. Good thing I did not know it was for sale. I would have had the ski mask on in the local bank for sure.

Ya, I would of liked the essence bass but I'm really looking forward to the new build. I'll probably let my VW Classic go closer to the time I'm getting the new one.

Yes I think I will too. It just seems like it will be more comfortable for me anyway. I'm looking to get the bass fairly compact. I'm still undecided on fingerboard wood and the peghead shape, extended B or the modern 2+3. I'm more used to B-G so it will probably be strung that way.

Congrats! I have to say that camphor burl might be my favorite top on a Fodera!! Wish I had the cash to buy one....

It's really hard to see the figuring in the picture of a wood blank. The flame on this is a lot more intense than I expected. Them Fodera people got 'em some insane planks out there.

Congratulations! It's a beautiful bass... Koa is one of my favorite woods, actually I am going to have a koa top bass soon... That piece you have there is wild! One again the fodera team hit that one out of the park! Enjoy it!

The Emp 2 is heavier by about 3/4 of a pound. It's actually for sale via Austin Bass Traders though to fund the new one. They're similar enough I wouldn't want to keep both. If I buy another Fodera, it would be a bolt on with a brighter tone.

I went a little nuts when I first got the new imperial trying decide if I was crazy for replacing the Emp 2, but I think I'm getting more of what I want out of the Imperial. It's a little brighter and punchier. The Emp 2 is really rich sounding and darker.

Or that would be the case, if woods made any difference to tone. Which they don't, obviously!

Actually, gear doesn't matter at all.

for what it's worth. this is the bass i saw on the l.a. craigslist that i told you all about. the guy also mentioned it on the fodera facebook page. i contacted him through that. i haven't played it as it's not quite my spec preferences. i've been watching it tho'. ;-)

the guy seems motivated to sell as the bass started at $8,200, then went to $7,800 and is now down to this. when i contacted him, he suggested i make an offer.

i don't know the guy either. just reporting.

one interesting thing: the neck pickup looks to be a little further toward the middle than my aj6s.

Did you consider having a bass built to the same specs as the Essense or was it the history that made it so desirable? Guess I'm curious if Fodera would build another bass with the same specs as the Bendy Essence bass...
