Hou's new bass looks incredible. They do a great job of "hiding" the exposed neck in those setups.

The other good wood that looks great with the exposed neck is tulipwood- a bass they made a couple years back with tulipwood, maple neck/fretboard and ash body looked just like the exposed neck was sapwood. Really smartly crafted. If that the right spacing, I'd be all over it, because that combo always sounds fantastic. :D

this Bass is not Hou's new Bass if I remember correctly... he will have a Garrison 33' Bass with the Bolivian top

Hi Fellas,
after seeing number 73 I got inspired to post some pics of my oldie.. Here's another time capsule.. serial #11.. I've been playing her almost every day for nearly 29 years and I'm still in love. March '84 is her birthday. All original.. Joey did put a new 'old' preamp in some years ago.

Hi Angus, I'll have a search for that Tulipwood one. I'll always remember your Katalox sixer, it was a real show stopper and glad to hear you still got gas.

Wow, No 11 that's a nice slice of Fodera history,
I really dig the '84 body shape. So yours has the original EMG's with a new/old pre and it sounds as J say's "more modern than the current builds of today?"

Thanks, Yeah I love the old thinner body shape as well. Especially the horns. Not sure about the modern tone though.. hmmm I always thought it had an old school vibe.. LOL It's amazingly light 8.2 lbs and has sustain and depth like no other bass I've ever played.

Well I technically still have it (and may forever), but I still have my MG5/Imperial and play it daily. I just finished a two hour practice with it! It goes to the grave with me. Just wish I had another.

Joey and I tried them. They are a bit closer to "vintage" sound than the straight EMG pups, but at the end of the day, we were not overwhelmed by them in a way that made us want to switch our standard spec to using them. They also react a bit strangely to our preamp. I cannot remember exactly what happened with them, but I think that the passive tone control was basically useless when using them. Maybe Mike Pope came chime in here and help me out...

Actually, this is one of my harem...it's been to the shop a couple of times. The reason that it is here now is so that Vinny and Vadym can look at it while they do the final carving on the VW Monarch #37 replicas...

Not that I'm gassing for another bass already :0) but I can see why it almost made number 13 in the Thumpin stable.

BTW Fodera No 73, just added to the newborns this week is real beaut. The early body shape & extended upper horn look perfect. So the early Haz pre in combi with the single coils edge it into the modern vibe? Love the fact it has Vol+Vol, I've always favoured that option over the blend pot and It's in great condition.
Is this it's first return to shop since '84?

Yes we have and the sound is very similar. The 5-string EMG P/J's look like soapbars, but are. in fact a P/J set-up.

Obviously a 5-string never sounds exactly like a 4-string, but outside of that, the build transfers well to a 5er!
