Naw, I already got one in the pipe that will end up as a fretless. My only question now is if I want to build a second fretted one that is more in line with my usual spec preference.

Plus I hate lined fretless and the dots are in the wrong place :D

No, I actually love the single cut design of the Imperial and the Garrison, the big downside for me is the 26 frets (I'd much prefer the extra room for slapping with 24 frets) and I'd prefer the 2+3 peghead over the MGS's 3+2 just in case I'd like to try it B-G, just personal preference really. :)

Popping is a challenge with the 26 frets - not a lot of room. Slapping actually isn't too bad. I have thought about going 24 fret (my Monarchs are 24) but frankly I actually have used that high D on occasion. Plus with the D-tuner you have a full 4 octaves to work with. Take that, typical 6-string bass :D

Do you mean is string spacing at the nut on the Standards standard?

Yes, EVERY spec of the Standards cannot be changed other than hardware color (for a nominal charge). Otherwise they would not be "standard" and we could not offer them at that price.

Nope. On the custom models? Is there a standard spacing at the nut when you order a 17.5 mm ?

I am so infatuated with my MGS that I am thinking of throwing myself into that spec. The only things I would change would be cosmetic and getting a bit more room to slap/pop. And after playing steubig's fretli, I'm sold on that as well. I'll end up selling the koa Monarch and flipping the MGS when these show so I wouldn't be in a total world of hurt financially. So we're thinking:

Fretless Imperial neck-through, MG shape
5-string, E-C
33" scale
24 fret equivalent
Dual coils w/ramp
17.5 mm bridge spacing
walnut body, walnut tone block
ebony fingerboard (unlined)
3-piece ash neck
black hardware w/D-tuner
top TBD

Nostatic, that would INDEED be really frickin' cool.. a set of twins is a great idea. I'm toying with the idea of someday going for a Monarch standard as a companion to my Emperor - to me, when you find the spec you like, it becomes your voice. Can't wait to see what you decide on.

To my TB friends, I have a question and I'm curious what people think of this. I'm doing some modifications to my Emperor 5 standard - adding a ramp and changing pickup covers - and I don't know what wood to use for which. Which do you prefer - pau ferro ramp/maple pickup covers, or maple ramp/pau ferro covers? Does anyone have any pictures they can refer to?

Jason suggested that. Basically it is replicating the setup on the MGS for fretted (with the exception of the fretboard), but a mild tweak for the fretless. I'll let them make that call on what they think will work best. I think he's going to talk with Vinny over coffee and bounce around some ideas.
