Good plan. My E5S I the best bass I have ever owned. Killer bass if you don't mind a bolt on. 3 weeks in, and I still can't walk by without picking it up and playing for a minute.

I am selling a bunch of basses as they just aren't going to get played.... Might as well buy a 2nd Fodera.:bassist: What else would I do with the $$$? Pay bills? Buy food? Clothes for the kids? That's crazy talk!:p

Included in the base price is a non-solid top in either 5A Curly Walnut or Flame Maple.
In terms of FB material, your choice of Pau Ferro, Indian Rosewood, Ebony, or Macasar Ebony.

So, has anyone gone this route?

If the material allows us to we finish the thickness of all our non-carved tops at 1/4". That said, sometimes either a customer or the material dictate differently. By way of example, with very heavy top woods we will often deliberately go thinner, or if the original material is strikingly beautiful but just a bit too thin we will do the same...3/8" is pretty much a bare minimum and for aesthetic reasons, that requires a double veneer.

Looks like my Monarch 4 Elite is at most two weeks away. Final specs ended up with an Ash body, Brazilian FB, Non-solid Crotch Walnut top, 5-piece neck and Fodera / Duncan Vintage Single Coils with wooden covers that match the top. Still not sure about black or gold hardware but leaning towards black. Final neck carving takes place today (of course on a day that I am in the NJ office)!

yes - I did this on my Viceroy - I only have added the Holly top and the MOP Blocks.... but if I still would be into figured wood tops I would have been fine with the Curly Walnut top...

I realized pretty quickly that there's all inside the "basic package" what I need in a Bass and I even have reduced it on the other side :smug: like going without the preamp or only having 22 frets...

And the result is the most amazing Bass that I have ever owned - no kidding :)

Back in 2008 Vinny took detailed measurements of the neck on my YYD 4 (which at that point was the best feeling neck I had ever played). All of the basses that I have had built since have been carved identically.

Yes, just before Vadym started the carve he called to make sure that I didn't want to make this one different, but I feel zero need to be there to oversee anything. The gang is very well dialed in!
