Fodera Club Part XVIII

We just finished Pleking it yesterday. Final set-up will happen today and I will be playing it tomorrow. I DID play it before we did any work to it and really dig it. The Ash gives the overall tone slightly more warmth (than Maple) and the high mids / highs have a bit more "snap" to them as opposed to the ringing quality of a Maple neck. Easy to hear, not so easy to describe...

There is no question that there is variation from instrument to instrument. We won't use a top that is bland or that sounds band, but some are more visually striking than others. We bought an entire parcel of "bi-colored" Flame Maple almost three years ago and are working our way through it. So...

Sounds great, looks good = we will use it

Sounds great, looks great = no brainer!

Sounds just ok, looks great = into the dumpster (or use for pens, decorative things, etc.)

Our priority in building any Fodera is great sound. So, we are willing to accept a top that is good looking, but not stunning if it sounds fabulous.

I was looking around on the Emperor standards and one thing I keep on seeing, the latest basses have less detail Bi-Color 5A Flame Maple Top as the first 50 did. The once on Bass central they are hard to see the flames.

I finally got around to changing the strings on my AJ6(Don't judge me..lol) I decided to set the action up LOW. I mean less than a millimeter. It was nice to see what type of action is possible with this instrument. I wont play with action that low and Joey/whoever did a great job setting it up at the shop. It was actually a little higher than I play my other instruments, asked for "medium" action, but I really dug it.

Thanks again for a superb bass Fodera. Every time I play it I discover something new about my playing. I should have ordered one 18 years ago.

Strange, I thought my top was great (#65), but a couple of tops I saw at Fodera a couple of weeks ago that were going on new E5S' were the nicest I have seen. :spit::D

Almost a bit of spalting along where the colour changes. Really cool looking tops!:hyper:

Wow, congratulations, and WELL DESERVED! Great music and great band!! Your touch, time, muting, tone, are all just... well... GREAT. Your solo on "For Sylvia" is beautiful. :)

What effects do you use?

This one won't. Not that I have anything against Epifani amps, but more just that I really like what I have (GK MB/Neo), and I know it's going to work well having played two different Foderas through it at this point... one fairly similar to what I've ordered, as well.

live painting in the background? cool.

as i was listening, i was wondering if there's anything that you feel is particularly "croatian" in your band's music. i feel like there are regional differences in some music, but that a lot of that is going away as globalization becomes more prevalent.

What he said - awesome playing.

I end up using delay a fair amount these days - can be a really useful effect done right. Strymon Brigadier is a great tool.
