These Fodera club threads are becoming hot-ticket discussions. I remember when a single 50-page thread would take months to fill up; this one is taking a little over a month.

I blame Fodera. They make great basses that turn their owners into excitable fanboys (and girls).

He would be the right guy. The Standards are the reason for the huge uptick and I believe he was one of the main forces behind the concept.

Just wanted to say I had honor of playing a AJ Presentation bass at Luthiers Access Group. I was finalizing my order with Dan and I asked him if I could play the AJ he has in stock. Holy#%#^#&#& it the bass plays itself! I have short arms and small fingers , but the Presentations 36 scale is not as imitating as I expected. Dan has a good price on this bass, someone needs to buy it!
I agree, my bass was spec with the longer scale and presentation body. I love it, only took about a month to get use the the scale and the bass is effortless to play.
I happily accept this blame, and attribute it to my unexpected ability to add a Fodera to my collection. I really felt like it was never gonna' happen for me, but somehow, things just kinda' worked out, and let me tell you, I'm EXCITED about it... but in a fearful kinda' way I guess.I blame Vic.

I am in full agreement. I have a standard Ying/Yang that sounds absolutely fantastic, yet I am looking at a Deluxe Ying/Yang and every time I find myself thinking of getting a deluxe, despite the great standard I already own, I have to kick myself. I need rehab from Foderas.....Just kidding I don't...
Yeah, GA (GASaholics Anonymous). In my case, the gateway drug was free... I jumped directly to a Custom (though not a Deluxe) for my first actual order. I woulda' been ok with an ES5, but man, the Monarch is just more my thing... and while I had to spend more, it comes with some rewards too, so I'm good widditt.
I figure I'll be holding my new bass in November. Just seems so far away right now.

I received my E5S on Feb 1 and within a week I was on the phone a few times with Jason and Phil speccing out a custom. Fodera had my downpayment for a Monarch 5 Deluxe a month after I received my E5S.
Funny that I had a $2k bass ceiling until late last year when I bought a $3k MTD. At that point I swore I would never spend more or sell the MTD. BTW, $2k can buy a hell of a bass... $2k bought me a older NYC Sadowsky, Roscoes, a Dingwall, vintage Fenders, a Benavente, Modulus, etc.
In any case, the MTD was sold and the proceeds went directly to Fodera for the downpayment on my Monarch.
It really is a testament to how good these basses are. It isn't being elitist owning one, it is IMO just buying the best sounding and playing bass available today. Seriously, who does the butterfly really impress? The odd bass player at a gig that knows his basses? Not the people in the crowd at one of my pub gigs!
P.s. their customer service ain't half bad either.

Yeah. I was gonna' friend her on facebook, but then wasn't sure if that'd be ok, so I didn't. But in finding her page, her profile picture is of her and some guy named Salvatore. I'm assuming they're together. I could be wrong, but I'm not gonna' turn into a creeper to figure it out. I moved on.
Sorry to break up the fun, but I have an instrument question:
I've had my MGS for about a week now and it is definitely warmer and smoother than my madrone monarch and I'm wondering how much is contributing to that tone.
The MGS is:
33" scale
Neck through
walnut wings, alder tone block
maple neck/pau ferro board
Garrison pickup spacing (somewhere in between 60s and 70s for the bridge pickup)
My Monarch is:
34" scale
4 strings
bolt on
alder body
maple neck/ebony board
70's pickup spacing
The Monarch is much more aggressive and has a lot more highs than the MGS. I know the tone is a combination of all its parts, but how much is the 33" scale playing a part in this? Can I get REALLY close to the tone of my monarch in a 33" scale version by using different woods, say a mahogany body instead of alder to get it more aggressive to make up for the 33" scale?
