Not sure of the effect of a mango versus sycamore face but your bass should be very simliar to this one.

This one is actually going to the shop next week to discuss some electronics options as it still sports the original EMG's and Hazlab 2 band since 1987.

No doubt he is felling the music. Maybe this sounds a bit hard, but alot of his fills is just !"#!"€4 Well Sometimes they start okay but then is becomes "This doesn't matter"

haha don't even get me started on Felix. We grew up together in south Florida playing music. He's come a LONG way, but I can't STAND his playing. I've been to that jam several times in NYC and I've walked out every time. It's pretty much just noise.
Clearly super talented, but his taste is a little out there....always has been.

Maybe this applies to the artist you mentioned and maybe it doesn't and I'll spare you the 20 page rant, but imho in a lot of music there seems to be a plague of emphasis on speed and flashy technique across the board and a general lack of emphasis on consistently developing tasteful melody in solos. I'll stop there and let the daggers fly :)

And in Hou's defense I think it's perfectly ok to be critical of what you listen too. After all you know what you like to hear. Example, played with a world class guitarist from LA. Guy was all over the neck like Alan holdsworth, but lacked melody and the guitar was just slightly enough out of tune to ruin it. I didn't like it.

I find that after I bug everyone (Jason, Phil, even Joey and Laura and Dave at ultimate on this build) for a month or two then actually promise myself (and them) that I am locked, I tend to stay that way.

I HAD to lock in my first build in Aug but I actually had it locked in April/May and stopped thinking about it. Jason and team know their stuff and when they recommend things based on what I am trying to achieve, I am totally comfortable.

Having said that, I had to choose between a killer spalted and killer flamed mango top this week. My wife thought I was into the porn on my iPad. ;-) I was.... wood porn. She thinks agonizing over a piece of wood for a bass that won't be built for a year is the dumbest thing she has ever heard. I guess we are all kinda mental here. :-)

Sommetimes my english comes out in a wrong way. I dig Felix and his playing on Jeff Coffin's live cd is really great. He is a great player! The Jackets could choose alot of players and they choose Felix and that's says alot. Whoever if you hear/see this clip I posted I don't think he plays that good. He plays alot and can play fast (so can I). It seems it doesn't matter. His solo and his runs is not very tasty as Mitch refers to. I know it's all about taste and I not trying to bash him or anyone. Just talking about his playing in this clip.

Ill be glad when my order is locked in. A couple of weeks before my lock date, ima schedule one last sit down with Jason, Joey, and Vinny, and have one last discussion. Then ima leave it alone and wait for the email telling me to pick up my bass. I won't exchange anymore emails with Jason after my lock in.

so what do you hear when you listen back to your own playing? im cool with talking some **** now and again, just own it and be able to back it up;)
