Fodera Club Part XXVI

We set up a bunch of rigs around a large room and just make it a party. I would be more than happy to handle the arranging from my end. In fact, if you're interested, let me know. Once we figure out everyone's approximate location, we can best determine where to do this. What say you, Fodera owners and friends, do we make this happen?!?! Interested?

Good idea. I drive from Toronto to New York (Thru PA, NJ and NY State) a couple of times a year so would be interested if the dates are close to when I travel.

Careful what you wish for - we have a couple of projects using projector arrays that do 3D without glasses and have correct relative eye contact (i.e. no Mona Lisa effect). A few years ago my colleagues did a spinning mirror hologram for video conferencing: http://ict.usc.edu/prototypes/3d-teleconferencing/

Not that much difference in playability, slight difference in sound. Depending on the gig, not a deal-killer either way. If you are used to 21 fret neck, just get 24 fret in any construction. You don't have to use them, but they are nice to have.

I don't think ebony is "brighter" than maple - just a different type of snap/sizzle on the top end. It is my favorite fretboard wood but ymmv. I also tend to not like ash, but prefer walnut or alder. Chambered is actually my first choice.

I'm a PJ guy at heart, though I've warmed to the dual coils. You have a bit more tone options with the DCs. But if you like the EMG P sound and the J sound, then you're set. Best to play both through a rig close to yours and see what you think.

Sounds like you're thinking of possibly going custom, or picking up a standard in the meantime and then ordering one. If you get a standard, you'll likely end up with a custom. That's just the way it typically goes :D

Nostatic the sound I want in my future Fodera is along the lines of a sixties Jazz . I thought I was going to order a Bolt on Alder body,Brazilian rosewood board single coils etc. But the dealer (Glenn @ ABT) said the Dovetail in a five string would get the sound that I am looking for, and I like the aesthetics also. I was thinking about a standard, but forget the gateway drugs and go for the Herion that's my thought process:D

That would be a blast!! If it's within a reasonable distance from Brooklyn, I am sure a bunch of us from the shop would love to attend something like that! I'd happily bring several of my Monarch harem!!!

Seems that alder/rw with a dovetail would get you there, though you might want to go pau ferro to get a bit more snap. Might get it a bit closer to the bolt-on sound. Also, if you dig the JJ thing, the dual coils can get you most of the way there, but give you more flexibility. I'm decidedly not a JJ kinda guy, but I've made peace with the DCs in my Monarch 5.

Todd the Pau Ferro would cheaper that's for sure, but I love the sound and look of Brazilian. After my deposit is in I will talk with Jason about tops The top of my list so far is Walnut and Redwood . Jason sent me some pics of "standard" walnut . It is beautiful. I was hoping Fodera had some wood left from the billet that is on Todds and Bairds6869 basses, but it is gone. I am thinking of upgrading to Crotch Walnut. Between Jason and Glenn I know they will find a stunning top! I like the dual coils but , I prefer the sound of single coils.

In terms of Brazilian RW, the insane amount of paperwork that needs to be done to comply with all laws related to shipping of this material virtually guarantees that after the 50 or 60 remaining FB's that we have in house are gone we will no longer be building with this amazing material.

I used Brazilian RW on four of the Monarchs that we built for me over the past 6 years and it's going to be really sad to not be able to work with it anymore...

That's a shame, Brazilian really lived up to all of the hype. It really is sonically in a class of its own in addition to its great looks.

I decided to remove my brazilian ramp because I felt the ramp was in my way more than it was helping for certain techniques that occur naturally to me. Tapping the removed ramp piece was educational - it would ring like steel.

There's a video of Paul reed smith tapping a huge block online somewhere that's similar. It's obviously a musical super wood.

I'm in for the meet-up/jam/social, especially if it is in one of the five boroughs as I don't drive! If it happens in the fall then we'll probably be up to Fodera Thread # xxviii!!!!!

Not sure I even want to play, just want to meet everyone and check out all the amazing basses that I only get to see in pictures.

-On the fb front, even though Braz Rosewood is the gold standard I am a big fan of Pau Ferro. As all of you Fodera Standard owners know it is a really great fb wood.
