Not sure if it was Jason or one of the other Fodera folks mentioned that the spalted mango as well as the red oak neck were both a pain to work with.

I still haven't seen the neck, but I loved the feel of the red oak neck on a M4SF I played at Fodera. Different feel than maple.

Edit: Actually, Jason mentioned to me recently that the top needed something like 15 coats of clearcoat. I must be getting old!

It sure was worth getting the Mango,it looks even better than I imagined. I have now had my Emperor for six weeks now and I love it more every time I play it. I would love to have another Emperor built someday. I'm thinking single coils in 70s position,Ash / Birds eye Maple and a light colored top. Nice contrast to the Emperor I have now. Maybe five years from now

Wow that many coats of clear. Looks great by the way, really different in a good way. That many coats is like BMW finish territory. Enjoy!

Congrats Mastabass! Just got drool on the keyboard. When I picked up my Emperor I just stared at the box for five minutes. My girlfriend asked when I was going to open it. After wanting a Fodera for twenty years I wanted to savor every moment it is quite surreal!!Play her in good health.

Hahaha! I stared at it for a long while and just enjoyed the anticipation and excitement. Seeing it for the first time was a revelation. It is all I hoped it would be.

The shape is Presentation scaled down to Garrison size.

dude, that was my exact body design idea for a build I was saving for before I decided to just go for the Presentation 6. I wanted a MG size Presentation shape but with that MG lower horn....well done, sir...gorgeous!!!!

Congrats to you both, they look spectacular! Mine is only 10 months away but seeing all of yours is actually quite calming... Masta, all passive right? Or is there a preamp hidden ala Lincoln Goines sig? I'm still leaning towards going all passive on my Monarch bolt-on...curious to hear all about it and clips in the near future would be mighty splendid!

Thanks guys! I essentially wanted to smash an AJ into a Garrison size (5-string)(E-C). It's totally passive and the pickup is p-bass position. I'll take a pic of the back and you guys will see how I tried to incorporate more of AJ's ideas/construction into this bass.

Hey Jason, I was told the sliding pickup (as in the Pope signature, and the Madrone burl of may) is no longer an available option. Can you inform us on this, might it become available again, because I would love to have it in my next build.

It's one of those chicken and egg situations where we need more people to order them in order to have them made and stock them. But, obviously, if they are not available they cannot be ordered! As of this moment, we have not turned anyone away for one, however...

I like everything about it! The blank ebony board and the passive. What made you choose to go with a mahogany body ?

I can't for the life of me understand why these aren't flying off the shelves. It's the best, most solid, and most useful innovation on the electric bass since the truss rod. You have all the different tonal options in one bass. It's a HUGE difference in tone, and all GAS goes away with it because when you think, "oh man I wish this bass had more clarity and openness," slide the pickup back and BAM it's there. If you want the opposite, a more supportive thicker tone, push it forward. Eq can't even come close to what this thing can do. It even looks good and functions perfectly too.

i tend to agree with this(dunno about since truss rod . . . )

for me, i thought of it, but it came down to cost that was added to the project. since i was already busting the bank, this feature would have made it impossible.
