I went from 19 mm to 17.5 mm to 16.5 mm. 16.5 is absolutely my sweet spot. I can't imagine ever going back. And I'm a big guy, 6'3", with pretty big hands. But for me, 16.5 is it!
Thanks for sharing this bass! I met Adrian a couple of times back in 2003/2004 when I had some business in Las Vegas. I'd contacted him about a bass and we met up, he got me into one of the shows he was playing and then took me back to his place to demo a couple of basses, a Roscoe and a Nordstrand. He was a very warm and wonderful guy. It's nice to see him come up here. When I spotted the AG inlay I wondered if that's what that bass was.
Hey folks… really tempted to take a plunge and order a custom. Looking at a 70's jazz type, Ash body and Birdseye Maple fretboard. I really love that tone, but would what to get more variety out of it, so would go with SD dual coils, and am thinking of going with an elite neck through and adding a tone block to get more versatility out of it. Thinking Mahogany tone block, or Black Limba… anyone have any experience with similar?

I emailed Mike about a custom P last week but then followed up to say never mind. I really need to try a mini before I commit to the next bass. If anyone in Wisconsin has one hit me up! Otherwise I'll try to visit the shop sometime this spring. The P is still "the" bass tone for me, but I can get 70% of the way there with my neck pickup in the meantime. The mini has such a beautiful shape and looks like it would be a blast to play. I'm not sure if I love the tone, but I'd have to play it myself to know for sure. With the tone rolled off I might love it.
Yes sir, I agree 100%! Fun and easy to play, and the sound is incredible!
I never had the chance to meet or talk to him, but I hear he was a really great person and awesome bass player. Is this the Nordstrand that you saw at his place?
Everything you've heard is true. Adrian was a wonderful person.
I feel that this was the bass that he had with him at his place, but I can't say with 100% certainty. It would have been in about March 2004, so if you do happen to know if the bass was built before that date, then the answer is almost certainly yes.
- I'm not certain but that's probably right, I've owned it for 4 or 5 years and one of the previous owners sent it back to Carey for a total refurbish, and when I got it it was like brand new!
I have 17.5 and 16.5s as well and do prefer the 16.5s but the truth is that there's no real issue going back and forth. Here's a clip with my 16.5 elite buckeye burl. Loving it!
Hey guys - Just reposting again from a little earlier. What do you guys think this bass is worth (to you)?
Value opinion please: This bass has every spec I want. But pricing seems high to me. Especially since there seems to be a substantial knock in the back like it was dropped. At this price, I would expect "Like new, Mint".
What do you think would be a fair offer on this bass in the current condition?

Just my .02. It says custom preamp, looks like a Standard to me. Some prefer the Standard, not me. If you didn't need the YY, that bass could easily be half that price, or a little more. I got the YY, it was worth it to me, but also weird that it's not numbered. It's the right bass for someone, depends on if it's you.
Received some preliminary pics of my custom build from Mike. Not much, but I'm excited either way! This should be complete late this month, or early February.
Well on the plus side, it's at The Low End, and Brian knows his stuff so the description is likely accurate.
On the negative side, it's at The Low End, and the price is going to be way too high.
Also, The Low End seems to often pick up instruments that aren't in the greatest cosmetic condition. A quick scroll thought the inventory shows a lot of basses in less than stellar condition. I'm sure they all function and play well enough though.
This thing is BEAT for $15,499.00. In it's current condition I wouldn't go a penny over $10k, if I would even go for it at all. Personally, I would want to send this thing to Fodera and have them repair / refinish and do a full setup on it. The cost and wait of that PLUS over $16k with tax and shipping for it to begin with? No thanks.
If you HAVE to have a YY Fodera, I can't imagine that it would cost much more to just order one straight from the guys in NY. Pick up a cheap standard to fill in the gap in the meantime. If you don't HAVE to have a YY, I would move on to continue to look for a cleaner example.

What attracts me in order is:
16.5mm spacing
Already has a ramp built
Shorter scale.
Those are the big 3 for me and this one has them all. Hard to find unless you go custom and I can't wait 2 years.
But the price does not reflect condition. Far from it. I thought maybe my understanding of current Fodera prices was off. I was thinking $11K at most.
What others think?
Yeah the current Fodera build time is a little wonky. I know it's just how things are now, but when I ordered mine it was about a 10 month wait. Of course that was 2005.
There are other builders who can accommodate those requests that don't have 2-year wait times. Not trying to sway you from Fodera; just saying those things are achievable other places with incredible results.
But I agree with the others - now way I'd pay 15 for a bass in that condition.
Not really a issue for me. Also play a Rob Allen 5 string and a W&T 5 which both a 17.5 mm. However my MG mini will be 16.5 mm which I might prefer
Christian, is your upcoming Mini MG headless and 31" scale?
30.75 and with a downsized headstock. So it will fit a guitar gigbag
I like the idea of headless but I just prefer the look of the headstock and Fodera headstock is really sweet
