Presently the waiting time for a new order is around 2 years. There are a couple of dealers that have already put money down for stock instruments that have not yet been assigned to customers...so, if they put their deposit in a year ago and you step in line for one of those basses (and yes, specs CAN be changed once the bass has your name assigned to it), the wait can be less than 2 years. This is probably how Black.Rose1402 did it and how I got my Yin Yang last year...

BTW, there are also a couple of horror stories where people have been waiting 3, 4 even 5 years, but I believe that those are teh exceptions and that there are probably extenuating circumstances in many of those cases...

that's exactly what happened.

I ordered the bass through austin bass traders.
Glenn told me that he had this bass on order for a long time, he told me that the due date was may 09, but warned me about fodera being a little late (maybe a year), and that's what happened.

I didn't want a bona bass (I'm not Bona), so I decided to change the top wood, I liked a lot Hou's emperor top (tulipwood), so I changed the specs to have tulipwood instead of olive wood top.
now I have a bass that is completely mine.

I have been lucky to find a dealer with a bass like that on order, the wait was a pain, but now I have the bass I've always dreamed of.

I like that quote Blackrose. Its very true, and what I think about most signature high end basses.

You have two amazing basses Rose.

thanks little bass brother!

I have a monarch classic wooten, at first I was reluctant about that, but the bass is a monster too.
I tell myself that when fodera made this model in 83, it wasn't a classic wooten, it was a deluxe lol.

But I'm really happy to have a bass that no one else own and that was made to my specs.

thanks

In our next segment of Fodera #3,000, the bass is carved and glued together...

A beautiful body awaiting it's neck...

Vadym -- an absolutely killer luthier in his own right -- prepares the dovetail joint for the neck...

Vadym sets the joint which will then be clamped and let to dry over a weekend...

Starting to look like a bass....

Huh. I see nothing wrong at all with signature basses. If it has the looks, specs and sound you want, why would it matter that some VIP bass player had a hand in its production?

By the way, does anyone know if Bona still has a Bona bass? I'd read he's endorsing another (and lesser known) bass maker now.

not to forget your Jaco and Miller signature basses ;):)

Touché lol

I see nothing wrong with signature basses too, it's just that for my first custom instrument to my specs, I really wanted to get my very own bass.

The Marcus miller is the bass I grew on, it was my first bass, and I still have it, all the other basses have been sold or traded, but this one it's sentimental.
the jaco sig, I like fender fretless, and to me it's the best fender fretless (except for the custom shop model).

I like signature basses especially when they are so well made, but for an instrument made by one of (or the) best luthier in the world, the experience of trying to get your own bass is second to none.

to me the greatest (!!!!!) experience that you can get next to the whole Fodera bass is the SMELL that these basses do have when they're new ! :hyper:

My two ones kept their smell nearly 1 year... but now both have lost it :bawl:

Vinny need to creat a "Parfum d'Fodera" :D

I would buy it instantly ;)
