Fodera strings, first impression

I think it is entirely reasonable to have a large factory do indivual 'custom' batches for people like Sadowsky.
The same happens for Pickups. I think QC and country of origin are key here.

On a wider scale, do we know what we like to custom order.
I generally stick to preferred guages and known tension.
I like piano winds at the bridge, and steps at the tuners...
Funnily enough, I dont have a preference between nickels or SS..lol

My current batches are Nickel and has been for some time so consistent over all basses with these parameters

I'm a bit of a string nerd and what's funny is that I've never played a nickel or nickel steel that I've really liked. But tapers and gauges I'm pretty easy going on what I like. Medium light or medium generally. B string I like 125 128 or 130. As long as I'm getting steel and the right size b string I'm usually at home. Since stainless is the most expressive of strings I have noticed a big difference in tone from one string builder to another. Tone feel and the way the strings come off your fingers plucking.

Interesting. I’ve been mostly using Dunlop Super Bright Nickels (great all round string) and sometimes Cobalt rounds (more aggressive sounding with bigger lows and sparklier highs). I used to love Fat Beams too. Any idea how these compare?

Mind saying how those Dunlop and Cobalt (Ernie Ball rounds I presume) compare in feel & tension?

I like both those Dunlop and Cobalt flats a lot.

The Dunlops are medium low tension I think. Cobalts are probably higher tension, and rougher. I generally like high tension or stiffness, and roughness doesn’t bother me at all, so maybe I’m the wrong person to ask. The super Bright nickels are a relatively neutral string to my ear, just an all round good sounding string. EB Cobalt rounds are muscular and aggressive sounding.

Thanks! I’ve waited to try the round wound Cobalts. Sounds like I’ll prefer a lighter gauge for lower tension. Very helpful.
