''Is that a cello?''
Sounds like she knows more about guitars than 99 percent of the rest of the public.I heard a woman talking about her son's guitar. She said it was a "lead guitar," and added that it had three pickups.
I can't say I've ever had people ask what a Bass is. I haven't had the are you a failed guitarist question either.
I do get the "slappa-da-bass mon" from time to time, but I'm cool with that. They recognize bass is its own instrument. Mostly I get "what kind of music do you play?" When I say 'Hard Rock', the girls will often say "I like Pink, she's kind of rock-ish". To which I reply "yup", and then turn the conversation back on to her.
This is bologna.

Damn, she knew what a pickup was!I heard a woman talking about her son's guitar. She said it was a "lead guitar," and added that it had three pickups.
