I hate bears. Ever since they started playing bass, it's getting harder and harder to find a gig. I was in a perfectly good cover band for over two years and got replaced by a bear. Every time I call on a Craigslist ad to ask if they are still looking for a bass player, they always tell me the same thing. Nope. Got a bear. Hate em.

I had two builders in my house recently and one asked if it was a 'cello. He was trying to win a bet with the other one who clearly knew it was a double bass, but acted dumb to get his work buddy to put money down.

I reckon both would've been foxed by something as odd as a bass guitar though. Most non-musicians just don't recognise them. They think all the electric guitars they've ever seen are electric guitars, it doesn't register that there might be a bass model that has a different musical occupation.

And to be fair to them, why would they? Bass guitarists have been kept a secret by the music business for decades.

I do get the "slappa-da-bass mon" from time to time, but I'm cool with that. They recognize bass is its own instrument. Mostly I get "what kind of music do you play?" When I say 'Hard Rock', the girls will often say "I like Pink, she's kind of rock-ish". To which I reply "yup", and then turn the conversation back on to her.
