Hey fellow Ric'ers :D

Mine's a 1973 (November) - this was directly after all the 'new' changes took place (ie - no longer the checkered binding, no longer the toaster p/u, etc). I bought mine second-hand and it didn't have the bridge p/u cover.

I've never played one with the p/u cover on, and have been interesting in giving it a try to see what its like. After reading this thread, it seems RIC sells them for $12 or so...however, I've also heard some people mention that some of these p/u covers are made of plastic ------ well, the hardware around my bridge p/u is definitely metal (maybe all Rics are? I'm not sure), so if the more recently made p/u covers are made of plastic, I'm not sure that even spending $12 would be a good idea to get a plastic p/u cover with all my metal hardware...again, I'm not fully aware of other Rics and such...

hope someone wouldn't mind clearing these things up for me?

Thanks :)

Hey zombie
The p/u covers are all the same on 4001s & 4003s with high gain p/us, and all metal areas around them.
I play most of the time with a pick over the neck p/u, resting my palm on the cover.
The covers are well reinforced and sturdy, so I'd say give it a try. If you didn't like it you could sell it on e-bay.

perfectly explained - $12 from RIC, what the heck do I have to lose, right?

thankya much :D

Word: Rickenbackers look REALLY ****TY with out the covers on. I mean, totally dude.

It always bugs me when I see rics with no covers for sale. Theres always a lot of PLAYER FUNK DIRT that gets down in there too over time and the end result is nasty.

I should make a pickup condom for the cavity and sell em. :D

No kidding about that one! Especially on a Jetglo bass - lemee tell you, it's disgusting. Still, playing right over the treble pickup gets me the best sound, so off it goes!
