For those of you with more than two bass guitars, why?

I'm glad you asked this question.

Yeah, I'm one of the freaks here who has basically one bass (one model, two basses), a main (kept at our studio) and a backup (kept at home for practice and side projects). I might one day get a six string fretless to cover Porcupine Tree a bit more accurately and for tonal possibilities, but if I have a bass that I do not play/practice every day, you know what - I don't need it, and sincerely don't want it. Personally, I have NO desire to collect basses I don't play and use every single day (and yes, I practice almost every single day and have for 38 years). Some people like to collect basses and that's cool, but that's not "the shape of my heart."

I can do everything I need to do and want with this guitar - there's no need or desire for anything else. I have the range, the tone (between the tone controls on the guitar, my pedals, and my rig), and the ability to play handle everything I want to (except for some fretless fun, but that's entirely optional):

Yeah, I'm a freak, and proud of it.

Variety is the spice of life...;)

I have four. A ric, a parts P bass, a steinberger spirit, and a stingray copy that i am converting into an HH.

I mean, why not have more than one if you can?

Good Luck!

again, variety...;)

My Ric is my main bass and the one that i won't part with ever, but i love the others as well. My parts P bass gets my bar gigging duties if i don't want to bring the ric. The spirit is my back up due to its compact size. The stingray copy is just because i love working on basses and always wanted an HH....

I am complicated...;)

I do have one that I really love - my American Standard P. I tell everyone that it will be my workhorse until I die, and I think that's true. For the work I do, it absolutely slays! However, there are others I covet! My other basses are in very bad shape and don't really cut it, but I'm looking really hard at the 5-string Marcus Miller Sire; they look and sound absolutely incredible. Also either a Stingray or Bongo, as well as a UBass and maybe a T40. The P has the meat and potatoes covered, but it's nice to also have other options to keep the creative juices flowing!
