For you married men......

I barely notice mine when playing. Every once in a while, it grazes the edge of a fret, but it never gets in my way. That may be due to my large hands and long fingers.

But yeah, if the wife found me not wearing it at gigs, she'd be pissed... even though most gigs I've played lately were just for almost empty bars filled with dudes and/or the other bands.
Because, you know... all those chicks can't resist a fat, balding, ginger bass player!
:blackeye:

I used to switch it off to my right hand when I played but I started to develop a nasty callous on my ring finger knuckle from all the rubbing getting it off, plus my wife didn't like me taking it off. So out of respect for her and my left ring knuckle, I just learned to play with it on. I adapted just fine and it never clacks anymore.

Hahaha, it took me 5 minutes to figure out how can a wedding ring be in your way when playing bass? Then it dawned on me that being Orthodox we wear it on the right hand, lol.
You need to talk candidly to your wife... Maybe she will let you take it off if you then wear it around your neck, visibly, like a necklace or something.

Yeah, it clonks about a bit on the neck (really bad on upright). I switch it to my right hand when I play. Never lose it. Married to the bass.
Thump.

Read this, and for the first time ever tried moving my wedding ring to my right hand. Ow! My right-hand ring finger is larger than my left-hand ring finger! So I guess I'll leave it on the left hand and just put up with the occasional clunk...

Fortunately, wife #3 is the one I should have started with. Wouldn't trade her for anything!

Like you, I find that it is uncomfortable to wear a wedding ring and play because I don't like it touching the neck or the edge of the fingerboard.
I just switched it to my right hand instead of my left hand and have been wearing it there for the last 15 years. There is no rule that says you have to wear a wedding ring on you left hand! Problem solved.
