For you married men......

Here is a solution:

If wearing the ring prohibits your playing or playing enjoyment, then take it off.

If taking your ring off bothers your wife, the I suggest you put your ring on a necklace and wear it around your neck. Keeps the wife happy by fending off the bass groupies, makes wife happy because you can tell her you want to keep it close (hence around your neck) AND keeps you from loosing it vs. dropping it in your pocket, dropping it on the floor, falling out of pocket when moving amp rigs, etc.

Neither my wife nor I wear wedding rings after 23 years of marriage. She doesn't wear hers due to a very minor injury to the middle knuckle on her left ring finger. I lost mine. The issue of wedding bands has just faded into the background. On the few (very few) occasions when I get hit on I just explain that the ring is around my heart so there's no need for a wedding band. Definitely corny, but it diffuses the situation every time.

When I got married I was concerned that it might be an issue, but it turned out that I quickly got used to having it on all the time.

Once I "misplaced" the ring in the house (took it off when my thought processes weren't at their crispest if you follow me). She was not thrilled, and despite the truth of the story there was a seed planted there because she knows I always wear it. Hey, it's human nature. So after a few weeks I went ahead and bought another one just to wear something. Well, some weeks later she comes up to me and says, "Look what I found!". Needless to say I was very relieved and I'm sure she was pretty glad too. Points accrued for straight shooting as well!

Anyway, I always wear it and it was never an issue with playing. Technique is completely unimpeded.

This is more of a marital issue than anything else. I have at least 2 colleges who are married and don't wear their rings 24/7 and it's a non-issue. Their wives are totally cool and completely secure.

OP, do you have a mic on stage? Do you sing backups or anything?

If so this is really simple to fix. At some point during the show, like right after she sings a song, simply say to the audience......

"Y'all make sme noise for my hot wife over there on vocals one time."

You have just annunced to the whole room that you're married. Situation over.

My wife is not a jealous woman at all. But I have heard from her friends that when I sing a song for her and tell the when room that....

"This one goes out to my hot wife over there."

......she lights up.

By the way, I wear mine when I play and never even notice it. And I manhandle basses. I'm not denying that some of you get bothered by it, but you guys must really hold your fingers close together.

I have a problem wearing my wedding when I play my bass ,whether practicing at home or at gigs, I find it extremely uncomfortable, my wife who is the singer on our band always wears hers on our gigs , she thinks I don't wear mine so the women don't know I'm married ..
do any of you guys find it difficult to play with your wedding band or is it just me?
It initially bugged me but I got used to it, means much to the missus that I wear it.

When wearing my ring became a hindrance to playing bass, I wore it on a braided neck chain... almost 2 years on the road, *never once* an incidence of infidelity because it wasn't on my finger.

Then one time I came home off the road to find out she was a lyin'-cheatin'-dish-throwin'-credit-card-maxin'-out hussy.

(so I paid a divorce attorney, and stopped wearing a wedding ring altogether)

Hope yours works out better!

I'd start kissing your wife on stage a few times during a show and say you're doing it to make all the guys at the show jealous. Then tell her that the ring is just uncomfortable if she brings it up.

I know a keyboard player who finds it difficult to play while wearing a ring so he puts it on a chain around his neck at rehearsal and at gigs.

I have been married for 27 years and haven't worn a ring at all for most of the time. My reason has little to do with playing. Whenever I wear a ring, the skin around my ring finger, pinkie and middle finger breaks out in a rash starts peeling. A friend who works in a jewelry store told me that just about all gold jewelry has some nickel in it and there are many people who are allergic to nickel. He suspects that this is my problem. My wife understands and believes that if women are upset about their husband not wearing a ring that its a sign of insecurity. I agree with her but sometimes we give women a reason to feel insecure whether we realize it or not. If I wore a ring while playing I might be concerned that the ring would cause wear scratching on the back of the neck.
