For you married men......

my husband and i chose my promise and wedding rings so they're very thin - that way i can play and still wear them. i used to wear a wider ring that clacked on the fretboard, and whenever i played i used to have to take it off and put it on a ball chain i wore under my shirt so i wouldn't lose it.

I had a thick, square cut one for a while, but I took it off all the time when playing and eventually lost it. My new one is wide enough to be masculine, but flat against my finger. Still bugs me, but tolerable. Wife is much happier.

A friend who works in a jewelry store told me that just about all gold jewelry has some nickel in it and there are many people who are allergic to nickel.

"I can't wear the ring because I have a nickel allergy." "Oh, so is that why you always use nickel strings instead of stainless?" "Ummm...."

Seriously though, I have a honkin' band that clacks on the fingerboard something fierce whenever I play. I prefer not to have it on when playing so as not to bang up the bass, but sometimes I keep it on to keep her happy. What can you do, right?

A ring on my finger, or a white stripe where a ring would have been don't make me married...

I am married to probably the best wife ever, she gives me no reason to want to look elsewhere, and I am doing my darned best to do likewise for her...

So I am probably odd here, I rarely actually wear my wedding ring. It's not a problem though. I find the ring itself physically uncomfortable and dangerous in any of a number of situations I find myself in...

It's too bad I am not a practicing Amish.... I think a long chin beard would be a lot more comfortable than a metal ring on my finger....

And I could join the band "The Electric Amish"

I always wear my wedding ring. It never bothers me and I'm not even aware of it when I'm playing.

Edit: It just occurred to me that my preference for a narrow ring might have something to do with that, I can imagine that a wide chunky ring might be more of a fret clacker.
Yeah, I think you nailed it. I always wear mine also, but it's a narrow, old-fashioned gold band. I don't even realize it's on. And it's been on more than 41 years...
