For you SX haters!!!

Aside from the neck doubling as a baseball bat, i love mine for what it is. A chance to test out a 5 string bass without breaking bank, a chance to learn how to mod and screw around with a bass without destroying a good one, and finally, a bass to keep at college that my roomates wont mess up.

I like my sx jazz...might slap a P neck on it though. That would cost me roughly $700 now for MIM fender. Will be about $190 through SX. I like fender, but I like sx too for what it is. 90% as good as MIM at 1/4 to 1/5 the cost.

I got an SX a few weeks back, and it sounds great (better than my MIM and about a quarter of the price). It is a 5-string, and the neck is fast (thinner than the five string Squire I was considering buying before I decided on the SX). The only problem I have with my SX is the weight; it weighs a lot. I had that thing on for about five hours this past Saturday, and my back is still soar.

Yeah, those 5 string SX's will do it to you. Mine plays really well,
and the neck is probably the most resilient I've ever owned. Leave it to go between -12 to 98 degree weather and it won't move a bit. I love it. The weight,
not so much, but it isn't the heaviest ever.

Screw what everyone is flaming SX for. What you don't like, you upgrade and it's still cheaper than a MIM Fender, and upgrade a LOT and get a good luthier to install/set it up,

and those MIA Fender's are gonna get a run for their money. I never said that they'll be better per say, but they will definitely be comparable.

Funny that the only place I find hate or even mild dislike for my SX bass is from the interntet "inteligencia" here on TB. ;)

Four years worth of gigging, countless shows, and not one negative comment out in the real world.

So I guess this fool consideres himself quite lucky to be parted from his money.

Keep bringing on the insults guys. I could use the cheap entertainment. :)

I'll be laughing at you, not with you. ;) Just so you know. ;)

I don't own an SX, but I couldn't agree more.

I have to say that I had never heard of an SX until about a year ago. I am a bit of a "Gear Snob". I have good gear, and take pride in that. I don't look down on those who are typically younger, and have yet to acquire "Deep Pockets", and own lower end gear. Anyways...

I had an SWR Combo amp that I was trading for a Gibson SG guitar. The "Young Squire" brought along an SX Jazz bass to try the amp out with. I had a Fender Elite II out, but since he brought his own, Mo' Betta!

It sounded pretty good, and we made the trade. He asked if he could play the Elite II since he had heard of them, and wanted to try it out. He didn't care for it much. I figured it was the P-Neck/Spacing, etc...I tried his SX Jazz, and it was a pretty decent player! When he told me he paid $125 brand new I couldn't believe it! My buddy had just bought a MIM Fender Jazz that didn't play any better than this. He paid almost $700 for it new!

Anyways, I would probably never own one, being a Snob & all, but I don't look down on an SX any more than an Epipone T-Bird or a MIM P-Bass. :hiding:

Now if Kurt sells the Essex for on average $150 then once you subtract the shipping from China, Kurt's mark up, actually cost of manufacturing. This instrument real cost is somewhere between $35-70 bux. I question all the wood claims they make, the electronics has to be the cheapest and most inferior to be found. Thank JC for the inventions of the CNC machines.

I am sorry for all the people who think an Essex is better than a Fender MIA, they probably never held one in their hands to feel the quality of proper neck and dressed frets.

I remember when Kurt lost distributions rights for Fender gear once GC moved into town. That's when he started distributing Essex basses. And, I played them all in the store then. AND THEY ALL SUCKED. I was tempted like most for you who can't or don't own a proper Fender. Damn those Essex look cool, if only Fender was making all those wild colors, block inlays, etc but that's all they have is looks.

Is there place for and Essex bass... YES in YOUR FIREPLACE:)
